Will you also outlaw casters casting spells? Same deal.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

Good point! Depends if it's like speaking into a microphone, or actually having a booming voice? 'your voice booms up to three times as loud as normal' - awh, you can just choose not to boom. 'the words aren't the source of power, but the particular combination of sounds, with specific pitch...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

They actually clarified Verbal components! I did not think it'd ever happen. 'A verbal component is the chanting of esoteric words... the words must be uttered in a normal speaking voice.'

D&D General Short vs Long Rests and 5.24E

OTOH, if they could safely rest 8 hours, then why not 24 hours!

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

That may be the intent, but the wording is not exact. They could have written 'the ground', but instead they refer to 'the area', and the most previous area-like item in the spell description is not ground, but the 20ft diameter sphere. Perhaps the spikes are, like, really tall. It's not a...

I that'd be a fine failure effect for whatever skill challenge they just failed.

    Nimble 5e

Heartily approved. I don't like open-ended traits as a core gameplay mechanic, or background just acting as a bonus to a regular skill roll that will still be terrible because you're a farmer and knowing about farming is Int-based (so you should just ask the party Wizard about it)... But...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

It's not overpowered for regular gameplay activities, it just looks silly to be carting the Cleric around, I think is the point. It also has world implications, because mass combats wouldn't worry about the regular fireballs, but about halfling clerics in someone's backpack being passed around...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Yes! While I'm not a fan of the rocket tag and ambushes that low HP systems can encourage, whittling down a big health number just isn't interesting. I've run a playtest campaign for almost a year now, and it will, just because they added some options to warrior types. But that just raises them...

    Nimble 5e

I think you need a much heavier hand to turn 5e into something nimbler. I'm sure this is an improvement, but if we're still counting 30ft movements and there's 100+ pages of spells, while they seem proud that they removed Athletics as a skill but kept the skill system otherwise... uhh.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

Spike Growth being a sphere now does lead to extra arguments with GMs about whether 'moving within the area' means within the sphere, or only the ground. It's the difference between being able to jump / fly / get thrown over it, and just taking an automatic 10d4 damage if you're at the center of...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

Grappling is now much worse, as there's no way to increase the grapple save DC to make it more reliable (and it's always against the better of the target's Str/Dex). But Spike Growth does have a much higher ceiling against a single target (pushing weapon, Monk, Grappler feat, Speedy feat). That...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

It's the same in 2024 PHB. No updates, just a reprint of a niche spell.

The same. What it needs is to read 'level 3 Conjuration (Ranger)' on top.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Yep. TWF has been lagging behind two-handed all this time (and requires more investment, because you need two magic weapons, and more awkward hand economy), and with this interpretation, it would still not be any better. There's no balance concerns (unless there's wacky amounts of damage riders...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

You know how Tasha Beastmaster replacing the 2014 Beastmaster features left you with a lv7 Exceptional Training feature that didn't do anything? (it let the beast take Dash/Disengage/Help actions, which Tasha Beast could already do from lv3) 2024 actually makes it amazing! It looks the same...

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

Unseen Attacker rule is on a sidebar on p26, the index says. No video has mentioned it having changed, so I bet it's the same it's ever been.

D&D 5E (2024) Current Stealth Rule Actually Works As Is. If Moving Out of Cover After Hiding Makes Enemies Immediately "Finds You", Hide Would Be Totally UNUSABLE.

Yes indeed, if they'd just named the condition Unseen in the first place, would have averted a lot of silliness. For moving while in stealth, I think being invisible works better mechanically than most other routes they could've taken, so I don't have a problem with that. It's certainly better...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Yes. But if you take another Attack action... then you can argue that the bolded bit triggers again. They could have future-proofed it by phrasing it differently, but I guess they wouldn't go back and revise text based on later feature additions, who does that. And now I expect we'll have to...
