    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

-1 to skill rolls and attacks and spell DCs per Exhaustion level seems like the right mix. You'd rather avoid that, but it's also not big enough of an issue that you'd start powernapping the moment you get hit by a level of Exhaustion (from a failed climbing roll or whatever). WotC had it right...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

The only thing in Exhaustion affecting casters would be concentration saves. Meanwhile, a melee warrior, oh boy.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

So... the new Exhaustion affects all d20 tests. I had assumed saves were somehow their own category separate from that, but they really mean all d20 tests. That's all of a sudden such a big deal that we're back to not being able to use Exhaustion. What was wrong with penalty to attack, ability...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

    Grease says 'non-flammable' now. :D I didn't think they'd ever clarify that.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

Hypno is the same (and it's a powerful control effect if you get everyone, but anyone can shake the affected people out of their stupor or drop a minor damage AoE on their allies to wake them up, so I always viewed it as just stealing a few actions). Polymorph is basically the same because...

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

Oh, I saw this, when I was keeping an eye out for things that could use clarification. 'Conjure a book at the end of a rest.' 'When the book appears choose the spells in it.' So yeah, switch around as you wish... though I wish it was clearer, just by adding 'every time you conjure the book'.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

Youtube does not care about fair use. They care about spending the least possible effort to avoid any potential legal hassles, and will let channels bear the brunt of their strike-whenever-you-feel-like-it systems. What are any channels going to do, put their videos on another service?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

omg thanks for pointing this one out. They really buffed the hell out of it. Instead of 'the suggestion must sound reasonable' it is just a straight 'suggestion must sound achievable and not deal damage to the target or its allies'. Like, what is damage? Is a king giving you their throne...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

You know what they didn't nerf? Guidance. It's the same exact thing... only you need to define what skill it applies to this time, which just adds to the spam, because now instead of people going GUIDANCE they're going GUIDANCE PERSUASION followed by I MEAN GUIDANCE DECEPTION So, anyway, I'll...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

That Quicken change seems strange, when you already have limits in place for multiple levelled spells (well, technically, spell-slot using spells, so Magic Initiate free casts and racial spells and class feature spells can get around that limit, which I thought was an intended feature, and...

The tool list is really unimpressive. Example... Alchemist's Supplies (Int), Identify a substance (DC15), start a fire (DC 15), craft acid and alchemist's fire Disguise Kit (Cha), apply makeup (DC10), craft costume

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

Yes... if you wonder, for instance, just how many feats there are in Pathfinder (either edition), well, it's all online for free. That sort of stuff feels a lot more confident than this weird thing WotC has going on now (your free DnDBeyond feat is... Grappler).

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

That really isn't unusual for RPGs. As long as we've had the Internet, we've had free sample versions of paid products. For a very direct comparison, Paizo put out this very same Thursday 266 pages of playtest material for Starfinder 2e. Corporations do not deserve your defense, nor do they...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

No no, that's obvious, and it was clear the videos were going to go down shortly, because companies rarely intend that amount of free access. But still... in a month anyone can do that. Or anyone from GenCon can do that now. So it just seems weird to put another black mark onto WotC's...

There was the video where he slowly flipped through the whole book, showing every page of it. I used it to check a few things when he put it up. It's gone to private now, obviously.

This bit right here. Companies of a certain size can keep succeeding solely on the inertia of name recognition, despite their best attempts at self-sabotage.

WotC is going to WotC. I suppose we should be thankful they didn't jump straight to Pinkertons this time. You might think that showing people just how full of art the book is would be a pretty cool move. That was my main takeaway from those videos, not the urge to print out fuzzy screenshots.

I'll note that this confusion is because it does in BG3.
