    D&D 5E (2024) Should paladin's aura of protection be "normalized" a little?

While I hate that it's a strong enough of a feature that every party should have a Paladin... It's only 10ft radius, and Paladins tend to be in melee, so this actually rewards forming a frontline. And it makes Charisma Paladins a very valid build option, rather than just a niche curiosity.

    D&D 5E (2024) Celestial Warlock's Radiant Soul got a buff

There's no difference between did cast vs have cast. And because both the present and past tense of cast is cast, guess we'll never know!

D&D 5E (2024) Character Design Foundations With Bigger Budgeted Species (+)

I think putting in more features runs the risk of class-ifying the races, as not every feature can be universally useful. 'we gave Kenders the Taunt ability, making them the only warrior-type who can actually hold aggro' It bears noting that even with the very few features the base 5e...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Bonus action magic item use is the one new thing Thief got.

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

Eldritch Blast really should scale based on Warlock levels, huh. It's like it's a class feature or something.

D&D 5E (2024) Monks and the Weapon Mastery Feat

They get Str + Dex save proficiencies. Wis 16 Monk1 is not inherently any better than a Wis 16 Fighter.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

And that's exactly why blade cantrip sneak attacks aren't a problem. Cantripper is making one bigger single attack. Nicker is making two attacks, and has the option of picking up Dual-Wielder for 3rd. The latter has the reliability (of landing their sneak attack in the first place) on their...

D&D 5E (2024) Monks and the Weapon Mastery Feat

Fair... It just feels off, because you'd still have to be naked+unshielded for the martial arts to work, which means you'd want to be boosting Dex+Wis both to have any semblance of AC, and Fighter isn't getting anything else out of the Wis. That said, it's not like starting with Wis 16 would be...

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

It's not. It's the base Fighter chassis with a few spell slots clumsily crafted on. It takes until lv18 for EK to be able to attack while also casting a lv1/lv2 spell, which should tell you everything you need to know - not exactly a great marriage of fighting and magic. For actual magic...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

And you cannot reload it without a free hand, so uhh. Seeing how Eldritch Blast cannot sneak attack, that'd be a pretty poor Rogue!

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

You can still cast Blade Ward with War Magic... Sure, you don't need to cast it often (what with 1min duration if you have the concentration to spare for it), but War Magic doesn't limit itself to just attack cantrips.

D&D 5E (2024) Monks and the Weapon Mastery Feat

I have a Monk in my game who dipped into Fighter1 just so they could have the 3 weapon masteries... Now they don't have to be Open Hand to Topple people, can support their team by Sapping with a magical mace, etc Light/Finesse weapon masteries are really limited (basically Nick/Vex). Monk + 1...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

A lot of people seem just as enamored by attack cantrips as they were in 2014. That's a single big hit. Besides that, unfortunately dual hand crossbows are still a thing, but they only have a 30ft range (unless you pick up Sharpshooter just for that), so a real bow of some sort gives you more...

D&D 5E (2024) Monks and the Weapon Mastery Feat

I think 1 level of Rogue is an amazingly cheap price to pay for a scaling extra attack from Nick + sneak attack + Expertise. But you really don't want/need more than just that 1 level. A pure monk + Weapon Master is an option, but it's lacking the other goodies besides Nick, and 1 level is just...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

On Goliaths, I don't personally really like Cloud (they already have movement speed + Str advantage from Embiggening to make Athletics rolls with) or Hill (that's what weapon masteries are for, especially when it's still limited to Large enemies), but they are both powerful because you can just...

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

It shouldn't, so I wish there was something in the subclass to reward Int. Int skills really aren't it, so you're just looking at spell DCs, and you don't have the spell levels / slots to make that alone worth it. As things are, are you going to boost Int over Str/Dex? Or boost Int over getting...

D&D 5E (2024) Not a fan of the new Eldritch Knight

PHB-only EK is in a really weird place. It feels very off to only get your defining feature at lv7... and even a not-dumped Int 16 will feel like it misses too often compared to your actual power stat. And you cannot use your bond weapon as a casting focus (unless it's a quarterstaff), oh no...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

I think Dragonborn breath does have unique value in that it gives warriors an AoE, which they otherwise have none of. Even if it's low damage and low DC, but it's still always hitting for at least half damage, to maybe finish near-dead people off... Ah wait, you'd have to know that someone is...

D&D 5E (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

Their natural AC also allowed them to make for a +1 AC Rogue... but that kind of disappears after the first few levels, as you can expect to find a studded leather +1 in a regular game. I really tried to make a low-Wisdom Lizardfolk Monk to take advantage of the natural AC, but Stunning Strike /...
