    "The Marvels" - Teaser

Ah, maybe that's it then. "Continuity lock-out".

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

You seem to be making several false assumptions here: 1.) Assuming that supernatural effects cannot remove a cap. In the contrary, this is what Girdles of Giant Strength have always done: allowed superhuman feats of strength that go beyond normal limits (ability "cap"). Getting blessed by a god...

    "The Marvels" - Teaser

Naw, I enjoy movies like Emma. (2020) and Black Widow just fine. I like movies with strong female protagonists. But I don't see whatever y'all are seeing in that trailer. I got that there was some kind of switcheroo and somehow the astronaut swapped places with a girl from earth who started...

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

Oh, I think I get where you're coming from now. You mean it's hard to justify killing a potential threat before it becomes an acute danger. I have players like that. Like, they'll refuse to kill ghouls from ambush because they just don't feel comfortable killing anything which hasn't actually...

    "The Marvels" - Teaser

[shrug] There was a lot of talk of The Rise of Skywalker bombing too, and yet... There's certainly a lot of people in this thread who see something in that trailer that I didn't, so maybe I'll be wrong. For your sakes I hope it's as good as you expect.

    "The Marvels" - Teaser

Maybe the tiny minds have a point, then, because from that trailer, the movie looks pretty tonally incoherent. I expect it to bomb.

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

One way to deal with this issue is to abandon Gygaxian naturalism to some extent and embrace the mythic underworld: there are no orc babies. And no orc females, or orc factories where orcish arms and armor are produced. There are only full-grown armed and armored orcish warriors, for the same...

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

Oh, maybe not nobody. I sort of like the idea of mechanically representing sexual dimorphism in the probability distributions for PC stat distributions. Call me a soft advocate, with the prerequisite of 3d6-in-order stat rolls so that extremely strong women, extremely wise men, extremely nimble...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

This is very wrong. Games are about game structures and procedures--math only matters in service to these procedures. Which is a bigger change to Monopoly: doubling the amount of money you get when you pass Go (change to math), or letting you choose whether to roll one die or two on your turn...

D&D Movie/TV D&D: Honor Among Thieves Open Discussion [Full Spoilers]

I like it better than WotC's weirdly big-headed halflings. This is fantasy, why can't halfling neurons be half the diameter of human ones? (If neurons exist at all.) Note: halfling armor should be lighter than human armor, since they have only 1/4 as much surface area to cover.

That's what made the bit with Simon at the end especially touching: because it came in the context of Doric deciding that she could trust these people.

Yeah, I don't think she used the sharp end of her axe once in the whole movie, not even on the dragon.

I would eat rusty nails to see Hugh Laurie as Gandalf in a scene with Rowan Atkinson as Saruman. Remember their Hamlet scene?

Whoever wrote that didn't bother to actually count how many times she wildshapes during the escape scene (7).

On top of that, it wasn't until the third time I sat the movie, in the final attunement scene, that I realized "Elminster" didn't have a Caucasian skin tone. It wasn't like he was Mac "Anytime" From-Predator ebony black. It was subtle. I agree with you that Simon's great grandfather could...

D&D Movie/TV D&D: Honor Among Thieves Open Discussion [Full Spoilers]

How differently we feel! I found that exchange at the end quite funny but also believable. "Something, something... give it another go?" [Loud sigh] "Yeah, all right." "Yes?!" "Calm down." [Said in a stern tone, but she has a little smile that says she enjoys being allowed to be the grump.]...

That's what halflings were like in the 1980's Dragon illustrations: well-proportioned small people. Remember this?

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie Review

Edgin = Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith from the A-Team, if Hannibal were still only 3rd level and not good at planning yet. The others were definitely more than just sidekicks, but he comes up with plans and sets the agenda. He overlooks quite a lot of much better plans in the process, but oh...

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie Review

Have no fear of the WotC conversion of the movie then--WotC emasculates the women! For some reason they give Holga lower damage than Elgin and Simon (on top of barely-higher HP similar AC), whereas in the movie she makes both of them practically look like noncombatants. :( On a more serious...
