    Any Good Puzzle Resources?

You could run through some of the Dark Parable puzzles which are free on YouTube. Some of them are suited for younger players but they may prove inspirational. I'm also a fan of the soundtracks of the ones my wife has played (the first 5)

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I do not think we should be reflecting the argument as an either or. Item loss is a consequence that many simulationists adhere to. I do though think a GM has to be careful how they navigate the fiction for the item loss. And I believe that is where you are coming from, in that we cannot be...

Just so I understand your concern, the idea is that making consequences known breaks immersion as it opens up negotiation. So is your preferred method for the consequences to be unknown until the die is rolled? Kind of like combat, where the PCs are NOT always aware of their opponent's...

Interestingly enough the PC had suspected the use of Detect Thoughts/ESP at the meeting (he uses it himself sometimes) and he had informed me that he was filtering his surface thoughts with nonsense. He was not aware that I was going to lean on his Flaw (final decision being his of course) But...

A PC was negotiating with NPCs in Sigil. One of the NPCs used Detect Thoughts which allows one to pick up surface thoughts for free (i.e. no saving throw required). NPC asked a question on information the PC did not wish to reveal. One of the PC's Flaws were (paraphrasing) Cannot keep a secret...

I disagree with chucking them all out. As it happens in D&D, GM decides if the persuasion has a probability of working on an NPC. If No, then no roll is required. If Yes, then I like the fact that it doesn't fall on me, but rather to mechanics. Now with PC NPC attempts to persuade PC. I...

Game trains you so badly that interesting things happen when you're bored. As opposed to Level Drain, Sex Change and Alignment Change? Granted we also had Ability Drain and Aging. And no my system uses your character's TBIF to reward you for following them when it serves against the rational...

D&D General More details on what to expect from the Player's Guide to the Forgotten Realms from Polygon, Massive Amount of Spells & Feats

I'm looking forward to it since we are into the higher levels at our table, so this is in line with our long-term campaign and currently in FR. No one at my table purchased the 2024 core, and I do not have the 5e's Sword Coast Adventurers Guide so this could work for us.

D&D 5E (2014) Can you retry a failed skill check? How long?

And yet this system is used for combat. Increase the stakes with each additional attempt. Attempt to Lockpick Increase the time (1 minute, 10 minutes, 20 minutes etc) with each attempt and roll for a Random Encounter every hour or less depending on traffic in that area. Also every attempt...

We do very much the same, it is discussed openly at the table amongst us all, we look at the TIBFs and if we can apply that in some way, but in the end the player decides if it can happen and if dice are needed for resolution purposes. The player gets to determine the DC if dice are to be used.

This is true. There some interesting ways to still give some agency to players. If a PC is affected by something that robs them of agency it helps, I feel, to turn it around in a positive way. So for instance.. * The big bad tough barbarian is suddenly overcome with dragon fear, ask the player...

I'm not great with IT, I tend to use Discord, but the positives are One can get through material rather rapidly in a short space of time It is very useful when the party is split, so 1-2 players. I use it particularly when I know it is likely to be a less combat heavy so ToM or no combat. No...

This kind of play, I feel, is fostered because of D&D where the overwhelming real consequence in the game is PC Death (even for NPCs). Lesser consequences are mitigated or ignored in service to the Hit Point god. So rational (always optimal) decision making is rewarded. EDIT: Thus you have...

Ah I see my error! I focused on the neutral arbiter hence using referee and father examples instead of looking for an example of how the word fan was intended to be seen. I did think of the literary characters but summarily (and incorrectly) dismissed them for the shallow comparison between...

I don't run narrative games so I have only seen be a fan of the players/characters here, but my impression as I've said upthread is that it is similar with many parts of the DMG 2014, where it offers good-natured advice on GM etiquette, handling different players and their creations. I do not...
