D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

The half-elves are not a species on their own. I'm not sure if Tiefling are either. I'm not familiar enough with dragonborn but I'll concede that they should have an entry. The drow duergar and orcs have a history as being obstacles and the enemies for PCs. And not just for humans, but for elves...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

So I would accept all that (roles + race) along with (1) A species entry, sidebar for either side (2) A few specialized entries that were species specific. (3) A CR adjustment for the species if necessary What you have without that is half-assed attempt.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I think you misunderstood my original post. The arguments were that roles are more useful, that narration is what is needed to differentiate races, that ppl don't need a statblock for a drow guard, an orc guard, a duergar guard.. etc It's like posters suddenly suffered from 4e statblock amnesia...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

WotC get full marks for unpredictability :ROFLMAO:

I didn't realise they were catering for me and so didn't have to repeat anything. If that's the case I would change the DMG as I know most of the info they are regurgitating in it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

It's why I've decided to nickname this 2024 release The Lore is Lava edition.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

The humanoids races had particular stat blocks with specific descriptors separate to the roles at the back of the MM. With this new MM those particular roles specific to race per their stat blocks are no longer there. It requires more work for the DM. Also those descriptors were evocative...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Well it's a combination of 4e and 5e (2014). As for your queries, in 5e the weapon and armour worn affect the stat block. Abilities remain.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

When the justification is one guard is the same as another, it is well to point out that previous MM didn't just showcase guards of x race.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Seems like we've already forgotten why people appeared to like the 4e monster stat blocks....I'm pretty sure it wasn't because of the narrative.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

What happened to the Orc Drudge, Orc War Chief, Orc Eye of Gruumsh, Orog, Orc Blade of Ilneval, Orc Claw of Luthic, Orc Raider, Orc Bloodrager, Orc Berserker...etc?

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Monster Manual actually sounds pretty confrontational to me, perhaps we could start a petition to have the name changed to Role Manual, What is the general feeling on this?

Never seen anyone compare an orc to a pet.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

The only Orc issue I have is that the Americans totally screwed me out of a second Warcraft movie. What's wrong with you lot? Even with a strong Chinese attendance we didn't have enough for a sequel.

Dragonlance "You walk down the road, party is now level 2."

Noted, thanks. Yes, if one compares D&D to RM (which I had several sessions experience with in the 90's) you are correct in that D&D falls extremely short on that front. Now is that to say that no simulation mechanics exist, surely not. IMO they are just very poor. The HD mechanic, however...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Yes, I just think that our niche hobby is pretty harmless and our playerbase much the same. Those who are terrible people do not need the excuse of D&D to inflict harm, that is all I was saying rather sarcastically. No ill will intended. :ROFLMAO:;)

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I think you are right, I think many of our real life leaders are actually secretly D&D players and that is why we have seen a proliferation of wars since 1974 when this game came out. Damn you Gygax and Arneson! Look at this hellscape you have created with this beautiful addictive war-crime...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I was being sarcastic. I thought that was obvious. I haven't made up my mind about whether I will acquire the new MM. I'm pretty happy with the approach I have now - an amalgamation of previous editions + 2014 + Level Up's Monsters + the Expanded Monster Manuals series. The PCs are high level...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

There are things from older editions that just cannot be beat - 2e for fluff, 3e for mechanics and 4e for interesting combat options. These newer editions keep your older books evergreen and that is a pretty cool silver lining. ;)
