    D&D 5E (2014) The Adventurer's Handbook Speculation Thread

I've heard they are going to introduce gibbering mouthers as a playable race. Mike Mearls told me. It was in a dream and he was wearing a pink tutu and playing a banjo, though, so take that into consideration.

D&D 5E (2014) Prediction: No OGL until at least May if not later

Here are my poorly informed musings. WOTC doesn't want to release an OGL right now because they know there will be an instant release of several (very good) adventure paths and modules. That would hurt the bottom line of their third party produced adventure paths and other products (like the...

D&D 5E (2014) My cleric can use a wand of lightning bolts?

Here's a second question. If I'm wrong, and I very well may be, then how do you deal with the problem of a party getting several magic items that are just useless to them. Limiting the "spellcasters" category that way would mean even more useless magic items could turn up on random magic item rolls.

D&D 5E (2014) My cleric can use a wand of lightning bolts?

Right, well that's why I said "somewhat redundant," but you're correct that it's not exactly the same thing. Still, I sort of dislike how limiting it makes those items less useful to a party, and unnecessarily so in my opinion. I'm also trying to understand what was intended by the rules...

D&D 5E (2014) My cleric can use a wand of lightning bolts?

Wouldn't it be somewhat redundant if there was a category that said "warlocks only" and a category that said "spellcasters" if the spellcasters category only allowed spellcasters that had the specific spell the wand does on their class spell list? It seems to me that they meant "spellcasters"...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e's underwhelming releases

I've thought about what I would do if I started a new group at level 1 right now. (My group of players is at level 9, and I've had to convert a lot of classic adventures, and that's going well.) What I would do is start them with LMoP, and then when they are done with that and around level 5...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e's underwhelming releases

I started my group with Legacy of the Crystal Shard, and although it was during the playtest stage, I still think it's a great adventure for the official 5E and should be very easy to use. It's not perfect, and I did find a few things I would have liked different (more dungeons, a few plot...

    D&D 5E (2014) Attunement question

You question Magic!? *I realize I'm not being very helpful. I'm guessing they did have a good reason for their decisions, and left items attuned that wouldn't break the game paired with three other attuned magic items. Generally, magic items that give you bonuses to attributes are going to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Moving Silently While Invisible

I wouldn't give them disadvantage. If they are actively looking for you, or listening for you in this case, I'd have them roll a normal check contested by your stealth check (to determine how well you are moving silently. If you aren't moving at all, then they would have no chance of detecting...

"This is the most ambitious AP you can buy and also the most intelligent..."

I would also snatch this up in a nanosecond if you ever convert it to 5e. In a nanosecond. Hopefully the OGL will allow that to happen someday.

    D&D 5E (2014) Cursed Items and Identify

I believe in my game I'm going to call for an intelligence arcane check to identify the properties of a magical item over a short rest. So that will make the identify spell a bit more useful.

D&D 5E (2014) A contradiction in spell scroll entries in the DMG?

I have another question about spell scrolls. There seems to be a contradiction between what's said on Page 200 in the "Spell Scroll" entry, and Page 140 in the "Scroll" entry in the DMG. On Page 200, it seems to indicate that in order to cast a spell from a spell scroll, the spell must be on...

    D&D 5E (2014) Casting spell scrolls question

Thank you. I think I must have been looking under "scrolls" instead of "spell scrolls" in the magic item list. I'm relieved that it wasn't left out of the book by mistake. It was just my mistake. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Casting spell scrolls question

If it's in the DMG, I couldn't find it. I either missed it, or they accidentally left it out.

    D&D 5E (2014) Casting spell scrolls question

The DMG has rules and a failure chart on what happens when a character tries to cast a spell scroll and is unsuccessful. But I'm not sure where the rules are on determining if you fail at casting a spell scroll in the first place. I thought it as in the PHB, but I couldn't find it. And it...

    D&D 5E (2014) What I Love Best and What I Hate Worst about D&D5

For my table, I have them roll for hit points but they get to re-roll on a 1. It works out well for us. Now, the worst roll to get is a 2.

    Gygax Memorial Statue Concept Proposal

I think they should put his head on a nice plaque at the base of the statue somewhere, not on top of the castle section. It looks quirky that way. But it would look good with his image on a plaque at the bottom or next to it somehow.

D&D 5E (2014) Anybody actually TRY soloing the Tarasque...?

Oh yeah, I don't disagree with you at all. In fact I really liked your previous post above. I'll probably go back and give you exp for it. My argument was to the "ruling" not the "rule." In my opinion it seems plainly obvious that when a tarrasque picks up a "rock" or a piece of a building to...

D&D 5E (2014) Anybody actually TRY soloing the Tarasque...?

The Tarrasque wouldn't be throwing a rock, it would be throwing a boulder ... hence giant rock throwing damage rules and a dead wizard.

D&D 5E (2014) Are the 5E playtest adventures worth buying?

Legacy of the Crystal Shard: Great sandbox adventure. It will take a some preparation (basically reading through the whole thing a few times), but well worth it. My players still have fond memories of their time in Icewind Dale well after playing through this adventure. Scourge of the Sword...
