D20 version of Riddle of Steel's simultaneous combat?

I suppose instead of a dice pool, you could use a modifier pool? So taking your example, Luke has +12 total modifier and Vader has +14 modifier. Round one Luke attacks and adds +8 to his roll. Vader adds +7. Next round Luke uses his last +4 and Vader does another +7...

I love it when a Campaign Arc comes together

I guess it's just comes down to different perspectives then. To me, two years worth of play time and you can't have heaps of awesome gaming? I honestly can't fathom a situation like that. Plus in all honesty, I'd think leveling up at a faster pace would be a boon so you can hit all the sweet...

    Punishing Your Dice

Sure. Here are some quick shots I just took of a batch I am currently working on. I am using oak and maple wood for these dice.

    Punishing Your Dice

I accept whatever result the hand of fate puts the dice on. After all the dice are just a conduit, no sense punishing those. Plus I've been making my own wooden dice lately so to go out of my way to destroy hours of work would not really seem productive to me.

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

So in your opinion a hypothetical detective RPG where you develop evidence or maybe a fantasy-Spanish Inquisition-esque RPG where you use rhetoric to root out and flush demon possessed villagefolk from the town should be dealt with by a die roll or two since they are not dramatic or complex...

I love it when a Campaign Arc comes together

5 years?!?! I assume my game will not last past the next hour. On top of that I don't think I'd want a game to last that long. I'm not really sure what your getting at with level advancement. Can you further extrapolate that? What are things? Twenty whats? Twenty 'plots'? Twenty cool...

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

Ooops. I meant to say the hypothetical game SHOULDN'T have detailed baking rules in my previous post by the way. So you think a hypothetical NASCAR game shouldn't have much more than a single die roll to see who won the 500 lap race since driving/racing isn't complex, or at the least not as...

I love it when a Campaign Arc comes together

What three things? I 'Just Say No' to filler game time. Not that I'm saying your games specifically is filler since I obviously don't play in it and all. But my gaming mantra is to get to the good stuff now. Don't wait. Otherwise you're just feeding a self-fulfilling problem (never getting to...

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

Ohhh. I understand now. So like in a hypothetical NASCAR game with very detailed racing rules and heavy race car customization shouldn't have, say, as detailed rules for baking too?

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

In any game? In some games. If there was a NASCAR or Formula 1 RPG I'm sure it would have pretty detailed driving rules. The games that have a large section on combat typically rely on tactical combat as the crux of the game 'experience'. Can you justify why combat is the only activity in an...

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

Most people do not know how to give a speech or litigate in a court room or interrogate properly or know just plain rhetoric, period. Furthermore there is that old idea of if we were to play a game of Cops and Robbers and I pointed my hand, with the finger pointed like a gun and said "Bang...

How Much Would You Pay For Microsoft Surface?

Can you actually use it as a table? Like what if I spill my beer on it, am I out a mamillion dollars? Is it an actual table with legs and stuff or do you just mount it somewhere? If it's a real table, I'm not too sure I want Microsoft dictating the decor of my house with new-age/contemporary...

Why we like plot: Our Job as DMs

Can you explain further? A sandbox style game (I use the term loosely as I still don't know what the consensus meaning of that word is around here but anyway...) allowing a player to determine their character's death as the ultimate sacrifice/bargaining chip to alter events, especially if the...
