I'd of had them go ape nuts with the Open Gaming theme and maybe even give other games some spotlight. "Hey everyone. We know you love D&D but there are other RPGs out there. Check this one out <insert plug and cross over deal for a RPG from another company>." Although I realize it's not...
I really don't have any knowledge as to financially if the d20 system failed or not by pure sales.
On a gameplay level. I voted didn't play it, although I did play it maybe a dozen times or there abouts. Based on that limited scope I felt d20 Modern was a failure though for a number of reasons...
Here's my suggestions
1) An honest to goodness interest in the game. Plus a solid and clear foundation of what the game is going to be about.
2) The Adventure Funnel. Credits to Dr Rotwang and his blog. Not that I take this with me to the actual game (I'm actually in the no Laptops camp) but I...
Ridiculous. Okay, I can live with wanting to make them 'a monster' (I grit my teeth referencing that...) and thus not privy to the playable race list even though dragonboobs and demons apparently can be playable.
But if you're going to make them monsters, then make them freaking...
Oh wow. I didn't realize there was a special name for it, but my group re-invented the Ludi system on our own. We realized 98% of the time the initiative order usually just boils down to "You guys go, then my guys go, repeat."
So I guess I do the Ludi system too. :erm:
What do you use your computer for, other than obviously cruising the web? Answering some basic questions helps you figure out what kind of computer you need to buy.
Do you want to play a lot of resource demanding (ie: newer) games?
For work (word processor/spreadsheet usage)?
For media editing...
No, but I'm sure the Total War series will get there soon. Each interation of the game marches forward in time (Shogun, Medieval, Rome, Medieval II, now Napoleonic Wars era...). I'd say WW1 then WW2. :D
I don't really see the situation as roleplay vs. combat. After setting up the plan to capture the masked villain in this scenario, the GM having the villain fight back is just added roleplay. "You'll never take me alive! Have at thee!" Given the scenario at hand (and I realize it's just an on...
I prefer RPGs that make armed conflict just one possible extension of roleplaying. For me, I don't see combat vs. roleplaying as such a black/white clean cut duo like others have posted above me. I believe that combat should be an option (albeit a somewhat risky one, perhaps even a 'last...
I once made up a custom zodiac while playing a game of Arcana Evolved. If you are not familiar with Arcana Evolved it uses a True Name concept much like the one described in Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea. Basically everyone (an everything in theory) had their everyday names but also had a...
Yes I've gotten pretty darn to close to the actual historic event to the point where I'm even using real names initially, especially in the case of the re-worked Rent Wars scenario. However the scenario quickly deviated off it's historical course once the characters got to work which isn't...
I voted somewhere in between/a little of both. They both have there times and places and sometimes I like to mix the two a bit so.. no real preference.
I carry: A single rule book, two dice, a folder containing pre-game prep notes, scratch paper and the player's characters, and maybe a pencil/pen tops.
Not so much for me. The ability to sow such convincing lies and be able to confuse people on a mass scale so that they destroy themselves from within and that around them is my idea of chaotic evil. Devil's are lawful so if they have to lie, I picture it more in double negatives and tongue...
This sums up my feelings on Demogorgon. Being that Demogorgon is considered the definition of ultimate-evil, trying to describe him to someone and having them laugh their head off at the description really doesn't give Demogorgon much awesomeness.
"Well, this ultimate evil being that rules...
