    The Next Innovation in Gaming

I'm skeptical about an electronic innovative revolution in table-top gaming cause of the nature of the game. It's basically already here but AFAICT has not swept us all into the digital age of digital-top gaming. Plus Magic tried this and it's not like Magic Online is smashing the actual card...

Did your very first character die or level up?

I think the first game I played we got one level up and then stopped playing for awhile... so I voted that. Although the memory is fuzzy and could have been a 'neither'.

    Christmas Purchases

I picked up a copy of the Heroquest RPG. Everything else was non-gaming related.

Pathfinder 1E WotC desperately needs to learn from Paizo and Privateer Press

Gee randomly remember that discussion about ghouls around here on ENWorld too... could it have been one of the question/answers in one of the many Ask Gary threads?

    What makes a Sandbox?

A sandbox needs sand right? So there is the first requirement. Then, when you play in a sandbox you start out with a flat or unshaped container of sand. You sit in it and then take tools like a little green plastic shovel an a yellow bucket and make sand towers. Or maybe grab some green army...

    Plots in a Sandbox

Cool. I was just asking first to see if my advice would be warranted or totally left field an unhelpful. I'm thinking it's gonna be more the latter but I dunno I'll pitch it to you anyway. Basically, why not let the players pick what goals the NPCs have, by letting them pick the plots based off...

    Rules Lite Iron Heroes

Can you further explain what you mean by a "rules-lite Iron Heroes"? The game is sort of it's own beast.

In a Wicked Age play experience?

I don't myself as I haven't had a chance to play this gem but am dying to. There are however some actual play reports around the net if those could quench your thirst for knowledge. The care and feeding of emergent campaigns [Indie Game o' the Month] In a Wicked Age... - Page 3 - RPGnet...

    Plots in a Sandbox

Lost Soul, do the players have any say in who the NPCs are? Are you planning a more 'traditional' game I.e., D&D where the characters have no built in motivation? I know you have experience with games like BW and maybe DitV so that is why I ask.

    Looking for dice photography

Does it have to be actual pictures of real dice? Could you just make some dice in MS Paint and use them? Draw four triangles and put 1 through 4 on them. There's your d4. Draw six squares with 1 through 6. There's your d6. Or if your a web magician, just draw one triangle and have the random...

So I Want To Run A Western Game...

How about Barbarians of Lemuria? It's a Sword & Sorcery game at it's core but so easily adapted to any genre or theme. It is a 2d6 > TN game system so if you are familiar with Traveller, it will be easy to learn and get playing.

    Snowed in?

It was a mad house trying to get in/out of that parking lot about a week ago. I stopped in to pick up a relatively simple/inexpensive card game for some family friends (the game is Straw) and all that holiday traffic was killer! But they're still there. Doing good I suppose. I actually don't...

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

I see what you are saying then. But where does defeat come in? Death afterall is just one form of defeat. You feel that unless defeat does not have some permanent aspect to it, it will should not be as important? So long as the out-come of non-combat situations is not death, DM fiat is an...

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

Mortal combat does I suppose but certainly not all physical combat needs to end in death. Plus why couldn't a court-room scene where a life sentence (or death penalty) be just as dramatic with as much at stake? You're saying if a situation arose in game where a there was a court room 'battle'...

The importance of non combat rules in a RPG.

I would say astrophysics and space flight are more complex that bopping one another with sticks. So you are saying to me that in a game where if I was to play a NASCAR legend, driving at the most famous race of the season... hours and hours of driving, pit stops, crashes, laps..., that to...
