    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5e] Level 1 Max Min Fun DPR and AC

Of course the War Cleric would only be able to use it's bonus action attack 3 times at level one per long rest. I am currently playing a Tempest Cleric and being able to deal 2d8 damage as a reaction x3 in addition to my 2d6+3 greatsword on my turn easily makes me the highest DPR character of...

    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5e] Level 1 Max Min Fun DPR and AC

I see you are giving the Greatsword fighter the Dueling Fighting style and that would not work. For max damage, a variant human TWF Fighter with the Duel Wielding feat would get you 1d8+3 + 1d8+3 per round. It would probably out damage the Great Weapon Master's -5 to attack , +10 to damage at...

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the Monk the TWF fighting style

Sai have always been capable of piercing damage although they are primarily used for bludgeoning. mellored, I like the 1d6 per ki spent to parry/disarm. There has to be some kind of check to disarm though.

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the Monk the TWF fighting style

I've slept on it and made my decision. I'm gonna allow him to use his sai for all attacks if he wishes. Why? Because ultimately it doesn't change anything. If he has no weapon and punches something 3 times a round, it will do 1d6+4 damage per attack. If he hit's something 3 times with his sai...

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the Monk the TWF fighting style

What do you mean get it earlier? He is level 5 now.

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the Monk the TWF fighting style

Yes Sai are used as disarming weapons. I have considered adding that into the feat, but that is a strong feature, and I don't want the feat to be too OP. I would not make him take a level of fighter just for TWF.

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the Monk the TWF fighting style

I have a level 5 Monk in my campaign and he wants to dual wield a pair of Sai. They would be a re-skinned dagger or light hammer. This is not important so lets move on. He wants to be able to use both sai effectively, but according to RAW, he would be better off punching with his offhand than...

    D&D 5E (2014) Making a Kobold Barbarian!

My Goliath Barbarian has a pet feral Halfling Berserker Barbarian that he found and rescued. His stats are 12 Str, 18 Dex, 18 Con, 4 Int, 10 Wis, and 6 Char at level 5 with the Mobile feat. We keep it 2 levels behind the rest of the party. It's supposed to be more of a supporting character and...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you conduct an evil campaign?

I've been very interested in running and/or playing an evil campaign. I think it would be different enough from the norm to be interesting. A lot of people seem to think that an all evil campaign could not work, but I think it could if done correctly. There obviously has to be SOME ground rules...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

Since this thread has ballooned to 16 pages now. I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in again. I really like 4d6 drop lowest a lot, but it has it's issues. The main issue is that you can get wildly unbalanced power levels between characters. This is a terrible thing for everybody including the DM. I...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

I have always preferred roll 4d6 but it does have it's issues. I love randomness of rolls but I HATE having wildly unbalanced characters because some characters have god stat and some are below average. I know it's hard on a DM and it's not fun for the players either. In my one of my current...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Barbarian

I think of all the classes, the Barbarian is one of the ones that needs tweaking the least. It's a pretty strong class as is. Even still, no class is perfect and all could use a little tweaking. A few things I think could use some tweaking- 1. I like the exhaustion part of Frenzy, but I feel...

D&D 5E (2014) Imp as a familiar seems OP (observations and opinions)

Having an Imp familiar has been a blast though for sure. I mean, it was supposed to be OP from the beginning, I just didn't realize just how OP it was going to be. As mentioned before, having an invisible flying polymorphing intelligent creature with little people hands can be a game breaker...

D&D 5E (2014) Imp as a familiar seems OP (observations and opinions)

We have never really discussed this. We always assumed it was a real Imp even though it was summoned via the Find Familiar spell/ritual. Although it does fully obey me, it has an easier time with the more evil tasks, and requires at least a little bit of bribery to behave itself sometimes when...

D&D 5E (2014) Imp as a familiar seems OP (observations and opinions)

So in one of my campaigns, I play an evil 6th level Halfling Paladin with the Magic Initiate feat and the Find Familiar ritual = Imp (long story behind all that) But anyway, I have spent a great deal of time playing with this character and it's pretty safe to say that having an Imp as a...

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

The DM and I had that talk and he is ok with either character as is. He did not mean anything by calling me a min-maxer because it is simply not a derogatory term to him. It *IS* a negative term to me, and while I wasn't exactly offended by him saying it, I was just surprised because that was...

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

I completely 100,000% agree with this. There is nothing worse than wildly unbalanced characters.

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

I always thought an 8 was at least close to average for any score. I do play a 6 Int Barbarian that I do portray as "dumb" as in he cannot count or speak in full sentences. He is not a complete drooling idiot though. Our party found and freed a young feral Halfling that we gave an Int score of...

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

My group consists of a Warforged Fighter that will use a Halberd. 16str, 14 Dex, 16 Con, 8 Int, 10 Wis, 8 Char A Half Elf Draconic Sorcerer 8 Str, 14 Dex, 14 Con, 13 Int, 13 Wis, and 16 Char A Half Elf archer Ranger 10 Str, 16 Dex, 14 Con, 12 Int, 14 Wis, 10 Char And my Human Cleric that will...

D&D 5E (2014) Where does optimizing end and min-maxing begin? And is min-maxing a bad thing?

Well I did ask for opinions. I like having these discussions as long as things stay civil. I tend to make all of my characters at least a little tougher than normal, and I almost always dump Int unless I play a Wizard. Those are pretty much character building traits of mine. Of course I was...
