    Dominate Person - Question

By my reading of Protection from Evil, the dominated PC would immediately be granted a second save with a +2 morale bonus. If the PC succeeds on this new save, the effects of the Dominate Person power would be suppressed for the duration of the PfE spell, meaning the PC is free to act of their...

    [February] What are you reading?

Finished A Princess of Mars, now reading Hal Spacejock, by Simon Haynes. So far, it's very reminiscent of Douglas Adams meets the old Sierra Space Quest games.

    [February] What are you reading?

Just finished Ready Player One yesterday, and started A Princess of Mars today. For free, even.

    [February] What are you reading?

Just started Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline last night. It's about the quest to uncover the secret Easter egg, buried in a future MMO/Augmented Reality Game by the game's billionaire creator upon his death. The clues to find the reward are hidden amid clues and references to 80's nostalgia...

I've Just Got Twitter - Who Should I Follow?

I find "FakeTSR" to be an absolute blast. If anyone is bored enough to want to watch the incredibly inane YouTube videos and weird links I tend to post on my Twitter, my handle is "stumblewyk". Clever, I know.

Interlace your fingers into a double fist

I'm naturally a righty, and I "naturally interlace" with my right hand on top. Though, to be honest, it doesn't feel weird at all to switch it up. I attribute this to the fact that I've learned to do a lot more with my left hand/wrist than most people due to drumming, thought I'm hardly...

    Elder Scrolls : Skyrim

See, I don't see that as a drawback - it's simply another aspect of the sandbox/simulationist properties of the game. You're a 70th level blacksmith. Probably one of the best smiths in all of Skyrim. Very definitely in the upper echelon, because you've taken the time to become a great smith...

Take a trip down memory lane

It's staring at things like this and completely not getting the nostalgia and references being made that makes me truly miss being completely out of the hobby during the 3.x-release days. =/

    Elder Scrolls : Skyrim

Yeah, it can be easy to accidentally steal something. That's why you get in good with the Thieve's Guild, and then you can just bribe guards to leave you alone if your bounty is low enough.

At least they can't report crimes like the chickens supposedly could during early beta versions of the game. ;)

WotC Seeks Unity with a New Edition

I signed up for the potential playtest opportunity. ... I just talked 2 gaming groups into switching from 4e to PF. And created a third to play another PF game. Like...all within the last 6 months or so. ...and now I'm already pondering the possibilities of 5e. Thinking things like, "But...

    [January] What are you reading?

Anathem by Neal Stephenson. It's kind of a science-as-religion, far-future, alternate-Earth, alternate history. I'm only about 60 pages in, but the "scientists-as-ascetic-monks" thing is totally working for me.

    Lack of Female GM's

The only female GM I've ever had was my wife. She enjoys it, but I think she's intimidated. She's very much in the mindset that to GM you need to know the rules better than your players, so she gets nervous running a game for myself, or 2 of our friends who are pretty rules-savvy. As a...

Fortress America: When Gaming and Politics Collide

The first text sounds FAR more interesting, and far more exciting. But I guess I'm wondering just who is being offended by it? Even if you want to say it's inspired by recent U.S. international policy, it's still brilliantly far-fetched and an obvious hyperbole. If your skin is so thin that...

The DM Burnout and How to Get Past That: Advice?

Yeah, this is important...don't just drop this on them unannounced - make it clear that you don't want to run a game where the PCs feel free to run about pillaging and indiscriminately slaughtering people left and right. And if that's what they're going to do, then you are prepared to use...

The DM Burnout and How to Get Past That: Advice?

I'm going to give you some very different advice from what I've read above. Not to say that what other people have suggested is wrong, or won't ultimately end being what you have to do to keep your gaming sanity, but I want you try this first - punish your players bad behavior. You don't want...

if hands-free cell = distracted driving, why isn't talking to passengers?

What about my case - my car will make my phone calls for me, and I can speak through a microphone built into the center console, and hear my conversation partner through my stereo. If I get into an accident while speaking through my bluetooth-connected car and cell phone, and someone checks my...

    What do you do well?

I do my absolute level best, every time, 100% of the time, to provide my players with a good, fun experience when I DM. If I don't feel like I accomplished that, I find out what I can do to make the next session a better one. I am constantly trying to improve my DM skills, tools, and repertoire.
