WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

It is the previous line, implying the OGL 1.0a will be good for what you HAVE ALREADY PUBLISHED, but not for future (new) content.

D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

Corporatism demands that. There is a difference.

Crap!?! You mean I actually pronounce it correctly based on English rules?????

    How do you pronunce "grognard"?

I've always pronounced it "Grog-nard", but then I also say "Mee-lee" instead of "may-lay", so what do I know....

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

I quickly ditched SIEGE for a standard DC 5-10-15-20-25 system. We found class and a half was overpowered, compared to standard characters.

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

We played the heck out of C&C from around 2008 to 2014, using the 3rd printing rules. I ran a year-long Greyhawk campaign in the Gnarley Forest that my 6 players felt was 'epic on a small scale'. We moved to 5th Ed, then dropped it all for B/X-OSE.

    Anyone tried FASERIP?

I can't speak for a retroclone, but we played the hell out of MSHRPG back in the 80s!!

Avatar 2: Way of Water ... the PRE-POLL (Are you interested?)

I have no interest in a 'Ferngully' / 'Smurf' / 'Moana' mash up.

D&D 5E (2024) What new jargon do you want to replace "Race"?

Actually 1981. 1975 had race and class separate (human, elf, half-elf, dwarf, halfling; fighter, magic-user, cleric, thief, ranger, paladin).

D&D 5E (2024) What new jargon do you want to replace "Race"?

I vote "funny mask". Because many just play humans in funny masks anyway. "What's your funny mask?" "I'm an elf, can't you see my prosthetic ears!"

Sauron as a player character in DND 3.5

Don't forget, Sauron was killed by a High Elf and a Man (Gil-Galad and Elendil) in single combat. Yes, they both died in the process, but they did kill Sauron. I'm always leary of statting up things as 40th level X and 26th level Y, with 5,003 hit points just for that reason.

    Favored dice mechanic.

I just finished running a 6-month campaign of Wild West Cinema for my group. The core mechanic is d6-d6, resulting in a +5 to -5 range. Players only roll. Most rolls are against a 1-10 TN scale, or roll against an NPC's stat (player roll d6-d6, plus their defense skill rank, trying to beat the...

D&D General an observed and slightly different alignment problem

In OD&D, B/X, and BECMI "Law" and "Chaos" had specific meanings. "Law" meant pro-civilization, progress, and natural order, while "Chaos" meant undeath, destruction, and cruelty. Neutral meant just trying to get by in the world and not get actively involved in that battle. In one of the...

What Would/Have You Used for Trek?

I would suggest Where No Man Has Gone Before or preferably its derivative Far Trek. WNMHGB is a d20 microlite game while Far Trek is one step removed from microlite, using a 3d6 resolution. They are explicitly for a 1960's Star Trek themed game. Both are free/independent publishers. There are...

D&D General In defence of Grognardism

While not comprehensive, or an actual definition, I think Grognardism is a style of play: 1. Player not System. It is about the player's skill and learning, not the system mastery allowing you to make a better character. 2. Combat as War. As opposed to Combat as Sport. Combat being dangerous...

    Grognard view of One D&D?

A grognard here. Started in 1978 on Holmes. Played AD&D, then started again with v3.5, then 5E. We dropped v3.5 because of the crunch - especially at high levels, and that it took hours to prep a session as a DM. We went to Castles & Crusades and loved it. When 5E came along, we jumped in...

What props and special effects do you use while running games?

I am currently running a Wild West game using "Wild West Cinema". I use: 1. Ambient music 2. Ambient sounds (wagons, town sounds, horses, trains, etc). 3. I print out a 1-page "newspaper" for the Wild West Town each session that acts as a game recap, plot hook, and NPC knowledge.

D&D General "I have played in or run a D&D campaign set in Greyhawk." (a poll)

I played in Greyhawk in the 1980s. I got back in to D&D in the early 2000s. I have run 4 campaigns in D&D in the last decade, and all but 1 has been in Greyhawk, circa 576CY.
