    Peregrine's Nest: Who Goes First?

I think Shadow of the Demon Lord has a pretty cool initiative system. First, each player chooses a fast or slow action as well as enemies. Then fast actions are adjudicate first with players always going first, then slow actions are adjudicated with players always going before enemies. Within...

Official trailer for Titans of Fallen Earth, our new kaiju versus mecha RPG

Looks interesting. What’s the system like? Level of crunch? How does it compare to Lancer?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 House Rules / Fixes

I use Inspiration in almost every game session. I hand it out consistently for good roleplaying or clever strategies. So the fact that they have watered that down and nerfed that practice by automatically giving it to humans every day (and via the Musician feat) really pisses me off. So my table...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

I think the point of the article was that it set up a struggle between changing or not changing, it triggered a mindset of for or against which they want to avoid. They could have avoided it by encouraging change without forcing it in the tool set. People don’t like to be pushed into changing.

Seems you did not read closely. I just checked it because what you said was the exact opposite of what I read. "All the monsters found in the 2014 Monster Manual will also still be available for use in the toolset. These materials will be marked with a Legacy badge if there are newer versions...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Rascal has released an interesting take on the topic of this thread. Edition Wars have made a battleground of D&D Beyond

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

You have evidence they were planning to release updated monsters for free? Or you are just hypothesizing? They aren't releasing all updated 2024 classes for free on DDB from the PH so I'm not sure your guess here is accurate that they would have released all updated monsters for free. That said...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Ironically, we agree on player agency. I don't want to pull the rug out from under my players by telling them the spells on their character sheet changed to 2024. But I also don't want to have to spend extra labor to homebrew existing standard spells and magic items for them to keep what they...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Oh is that right? Many spells have been nerfed? I got the impression from the WotC defenders of this decision in this thread that all the spells were all "better." I would imagine then in many cases that players would be upset to discover their favorite spell was nerfed if they were forced to...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

And then the secret subtext is "Players will love having powered up spells! Many of them heal more and do more damage! Cool for players right?" "Yeah, screw the DMs. Challenge Ratings are already only vague approximations so if we throw off CR calculations that DMs are already using, who...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Off-topic, but I'm with you, friend, on Heroic Inspiration! But I will never award Heroic Inspiration daily for being humans so my players will either never choose to be human because I took away a benefit from them--or I'll have to come up with an equal but different ability to give them. I'm...

This is misleading. They would NOT have been available on character sheets unless you homebrew them.

Some shouting does matter. WotC doesn't love getting criticized in podcasts and video blogs. That spreads the discontent. But overall, yes, subscriptions probably matter the most. The example in the previous post was that all the fans of the Acolyte didn't come out until after the show was...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

We bought the spells. We bought the books the spells are in. They are removing those spells and replacing them with the new versions. If we want to keep them, we have to homebrew them. Copy them. Thus they are clawing back the content we purchased.

Disingenuous. "I'm guessing those happy aren't going to complain." "the small minority who are angry" These are clear statements that minority viewpoints aren't as important as unknown larger hypothetical unspoken masses. The complainers are less relevant because they are a minority. According...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

It's interesting to hear people defending a corporate strategy that says: it's irrelevant if we piss off the most active dungeonmasters, those who engage in roleplaying forum, because a larger number, those who aren't as engaged, won't even care or notice this change we're making. So because it...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Lots of folks on the DDB message boards are furious about this and quite a few are quitting their subscriptions too. It hasn’t built to the drama of the OGL fiasco, but it’s definitely a decision that is bad PR, is pissing off a lot of subscribers and shows how little they respect users of the...
