The new Kindle DX: good for gaming?

I own a Kindle 1. So here is what I'd say for the new device: It's probably not ideal for pure rules books - if you have some rulebook you refer to all the time and hand around the table, buy it in physical form. However, this is ideal for supplements - especially setting books and other...

    libraries for your campaign world

Again, it depends on how long ago the printing press was invented. Something like the library of Charles Dickens could be done very easily. Larger libraries would be possible after the printing press has been around for a century or so - there was a real explosion of literacy and books at the time.

    libraries for your campaign world

Depends on whether or not the printing press has been invented in a particular D&D setting - if so, it wouldn't be too expensive to fill it up. And even non-Emperor noble rulers tended towards building monumental architecture - and there's an advantage to being known as a patron of the arts.

    Modern Battle Maps

I'm trying to add links to all sorts of maps to the Arcana Wiki, but so far I've only done it for shopping malls. Please feel free to add other maps to the wiki if you find any good ones!

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

One of my major sources of inspiration are the old "Suppressed Transmission" articles by Kenneth Hite - that guy is able to find connections and inspiration in anything. I aspire to do the same, although I still have a long way to go... The real world is also a major source of inspiration for...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Thanks. I wanted to get beyond the "crazy inventor" archetype of gnomes, since the dwarves also fit into the "craftsman race" archetype - so I needed more to distinguish them. And the way gnomes seem to fade from sight - both physically and socially - well, it makes you think about them...

From 4E to GURPS: D&D and Simulationism

I should note that the GURPS 4E rules have been significantly reworked to make cinematic and high-powered campaigns easier, as well as make submodules more coherent and simpler.

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Hey, I do love the little buggers! Repeat after me: "There is no such thing as a Gnomish World Conspiracy."

From 4E to GURPS: D&D and Simulationism

I own Savage Worlds, and though I have not tested it yet like it well enough - the rules are simple and quick. That being said, I wouldn't use it for games with characters diverging significantly from the human norm.

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Well, tail length could vary significantly from person to person... and you just know that the males will take pride in their tails if they are especially long. :D

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

There is nothing wrong with a kitchen sink setting, as long as it's done right. Fading Suns is a kitchen sink setting, and it's awesome. So is Shadowrun. And Eberron is pretty cool, too.

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Personally, I see nothing wrong with writing dragonborn out of a setting. Sometimes specific races just don't fit the overall themes or moods of the world. But conversely, there is also nothing wrong with keeping them in. Each DM must make that decision for himself, and tell the players...

    [4e Forgotten Realms] Netheril

Yup. They made the Anauroch desert fertile again and conquered Sembia later on. They are essentially the new Evil Empire of the setting - and unlike Zhentil Keep (which is in ruins now), they have the firepower to be credible in that role.

    OotS #650 is up!

Well, consider his track record - his powers have proven to be nearly useless except at defending his family. And I don't think a confrontation of Xykon will change that.

From 4E to GURPS: D&D and Simulationism

If you thought the enemies were weak, then your GM was deliberately playing them that way. Plausibly, their weapons should have been no less dangerous than those of the PCs. It should be pointed out that losing those "10-15 HP" meant that your character would be forced to start rolling versus...

From 4E to GURPS: D&D and Simulationism

Uhm... Why are you doing that? Character points exist purely as an accounting device for player characters, and there is no point at all in using them for NPCs - especially since they don't measure combat effectiveness (unlike D&D monster levels). Just give the NPC the precise stats you want...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

Both dragonborn and tieflings have appeared as PCs in my campaign.

Urbis - Should I follow the GSL, or make the setting system-independent?

I've finally settled on Cambion as the new name for the tieflings. It is a nice, classical term, and it also has other D&D associations - so it should work fine.
