D&D 5E (2024) Monster manual Fey video up

It's been observed plenty of times that there are too few creatures of many types of higher CRs, Fey being one of them. Just case in point, the highest CR Fey in a core 5E book is the CR 10 seasonal Eladrin set from MTF/MMPM. There are a few others higher in settings and adventures but if you...

Well I'm not disputing that. But they just changed alignment--didn't eliminated it even--in 4E and it was among the things that got a huge backlash. So alignment stays even if it has no mechanical impact in 99% of scenarios.

D&D 5E (2024) Monster manual Fey video up

Combined with the changes to humanoids using generic stat blocks modified by race, it seems pretty clear that this is in part a way to avoid the baggage of having humanoids innately tied to an alignment. Githyanki can be typically lawful evil if they're aberrations. Githzerai can be typically...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Hah, that's actually what my second book was about. If you're going to use the Astral Sea as the inter-stellar medium instead of the Phlogiston then give us something to actually do there!

Eh.. not really. I was specifically trying to bring a lot of elements from 2E Spelljammer forward and adapt them to fit the 5E Spelljammer revamp. Updating the old TSR lore was the point for me.

I feel like you're kind of leaning hard on a false dichotomy. It's not like you publish one thing to DM's Guild and are subsequently forever bound to only using it; you can publish stuff on DMs Guild if it requires WOTC ip like my Spelljammer books or the Doomed Forgotten Realms series and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Stat Block Compilation

One thing I'm iffy on about the Arch-Hag is that 333 average HP seems pretty low. My level 12 party can tear through that much HP in a couple rounds.

Look I appreciate where you're coming from in a general sense. I also have no intention of buying into the new update and find that A5E and TOTV and homebrew stuff fulfill my needs. But this kind of snide aside that suggests those who like the new books are just dumb rubes enamored of pretty art...

Gosh this thread is just full of people whose early work is darkly shaded by their moral failures these days.

Honestly I feel as though part of it is that the stigma against 4th Edition is no longer a major driving factor in how the lore is presented and that Crawford and Perkins just like a lot of that lore. They also clearly like a lot of 2E lore because they're still using the 2E-style Great Wheel...

It also helps that Tolkien never had access to a Twitter account where he aired his most loathsome opinions for the world to see. People are not inclined to see anything Rowling says or does in a favorable light these days.

Honestly I'm on board with most of the recategorization but I have been side-eyeing the Gith categorizationsince the Planescape book for this very reason. It might even technically work for Githzerai since who knows what being hatched in Limbo does to a body but it really doesn't make a whole...

I feel like people are forgetting that even in 3E, the edition that let you build basically anything, PC races often came with a level adjustment.

I mean bare minimum you'd have to assume that Oerth, Toril, and Krynn all have their own Tarrasque. ...Unless it can shunt itself across space:eek:

Aside from setting IP, publishing on the DMs guild lets you referrence and quote every published 5E book that's not a tie-in like the Critical Role books... so even if it doesn't clearly use one of the WOTC settings it may be using things not allowed for a DTRPG product.
