City Survivor - Final Vote! (Read the Question before voting!!!!)

C'mon Sigil! RPGs in general, and D&D in particular, are supposed to be about creativity and imagination. Sigil is one of the most creative and original ideas to come out of the game, whereas Freeport is Anycity...oh, with Pirates. Sigil and Planescape are uniquely D&D concepts, realized and...

What is your overused plot hook ?

Sigh...I guess it is time for me to answer this question since I am about to do it again tomorrow! All of my campaigns have a smart, beautiful, deceitful female who is a recurring villain. 2 campaigns ago it was a bard who framed the party for murder and turned a city against them...with whom...

Gaming store goodness in San Francisco?

Endgame is far and away the coolest and best gaming store in the Bay Area. Most of that springs from the fact that they have a really great upstairs gaming area and serves as the hub of the RPGA in SF. The staff is great and everyone in there is a real gamer. As far as other general...

What classes haven't been done yet?

Exactly my point (which I may have made a little tactlessly. Sorry, bad day at work). My other point, while I realize that this thread is just an intellectual/creative exercise, is that there are an infinite number of 'new' (which I argue are far from new by any useful definition of the...

What classes haven't been done yet?

So what you are saying is that they should keep coming out with base classes until every single niche if filled? That the ability to multi-class, select feats and enter PrC should not be a consideration when deciding if a base class is worth it? I mean, you do realize that there can literally...

What classes haven't been done yet?

I think it is interesting that the gaming community seems to have turned on PrCs. At first they were the coolest thing about 3.x, with only feats giving them any competition. The whole point was that some things were so nuanced, or specialized, or such a hybrid of two existing ideas, that a...

    Mats

And yet another. Best mat ever. I was going to pick up 2-3 more at GenCon SoCal but they were not there. :( Draw a room with permanent marker, fold it up, whip it out when the party opens the door.

Best Year 6 Core RPGA mods

Catching Breath was probably the best investigative mod ever, and was the most fun to both play and run(I did both). The roleplaying opportunities were great too. As a DM who prides himself on his investigative/roleplay heavy home game, Catching Breath has become to standard toward which I strive.

Superior masterwork items for a low magic world?

A while back I posted looking for advice about various aspects of a low-magic-item world. (BTW, thanks for all the advice!) Among all the postings were a couple of suggestions that the world should have superior masterwork items, especially weapons. Does anyone use improved masterwork items in...

    Best (and worst) of 2006

Best: 1. Tome of Magic: Finally, some thinking outside the Vancian box 2. Tome of Battle/Bo9S: Again, new ideas well executed 3. Ptolus: Just 'cause. I mean, really, have you read any of it? 4. PHBII: the feats were necessary and a true fighter/mage combo was a long time coming. Worst...

Only SIX d20/OGL books on island scenario

Hmmmm, 6 huh? All right, let's start with the cheat choice: 1. SRD printed and bound 2. Tome of Magic 3. Tome of Battle 4. Ptolus 5. Advanced Bestiary (Green Ronin: this gives you endless options for creating monsters) 6. Magic of Incarnum (I am currently running a game with almost no...

[Tome of Magic] Tell me about the Binder!

I know you are being modest and that this is off-topic, but I think ToM is the best WotC book released in years. I couldn't pick a favorite class from it; as a DM I have royally screwed my party with NPC BBEG from all three sections! ToM to me was the epitome of WotC designers being encouraged...

[Tome of Magic] Tell me about the Binder!

There is no way a binder could replace the cleric unless you have another source of healing. The binder and the beguiler are polar opposites in tone: the latter is incredibly focused and better at what he does than anyone else, the former is very versatile and, while not the best at anything...

If item creation didn't use Xp, what should it use?

Piratecat beat me to it. I instituted an AP creation cost on magic items; it made the 'cost' of making magic items feel more real to the players.

    Alternate alignment systems?

I just came from the alignment poll/thread and it got me thinking: What are the published (unpublished?) alternate alignment systems or variations on the core alighment rules? I have been DMing 3.x for over 10 years and in all that time I have never used alignment...until now. Discarding...
