    Gnomes

Although gnomes exist in my homebrew, no one has ever wanted to play one, and I've never used a gnome as an NPC. I don't ever recall seeing anyone play a gnome. For all intents and purposes, gnomes don't exist in my homebrew.

Living in a European City for 3 months

I'm an Elizabethan historian, so I'd be happy pretty much anywhere in England. I wouldn't mind spending time in either Bristol or Hastings - or pretty much anywhere in the West Country. Outside of the UK, Vienna and Copenhagen top my list.

TPK : And you think you know whose fault it is...

I agree with Rl'Halsinor and VirgilCaine: The guy needs to go. From what you describe, it's not his character who's the problem but he himself. If he were playing a tactically clueless character who refuses to work with the party, the problem could probably be resolved amincably and without...

Must... disinfect... computer... before... virus... corrupts... world... *poors bleach on computer* Ahhh, much better. No, wait! It's still there! There truly is no escape.

When your DM asks you how many hit points you have left...

As a DM, I occasionally fudge damage, either increasing (if the encounter is far easier than anticipated - not through player ingenuity or character ability but my own error) or decreasing (if I goofed and made the encounter way overpowering without providing appropriate info which may have...

What class(es) does your group tend to avoid?

The big one for my regular gaming group is the cleric. Although inevitably someone will decide to play one, it's done so rather reluctantly. (I keep telling my players to play what they want - if no one elects to play a cleric, I'll work in someway for them to receive healing at minimal cost...

What is your favorite D&D monster?

The flumph, 'cause nobody ever expects THE FLUMPH  I go through phases, the latest of which favours the ratmen from Scarred Lands.

I must remember that... I plan to inflict the Deck on my players one of these days ;)

How (Often) Do You Use Modules? Revised!

I prefer to write my own adventures, although I shamelessly plunder modules (and campaign settings and source material, etc) for ideas, NPCs, maps and so on. If I really like a module, I will incorporate it into my homebrew setting with the expectation that I'll eventually run it . As for...

    Clockwork Orange

I really enjoyed the movie but the book, by Anthony Burgess, was definitely superior.

    Group names

As a player, the group with which I was playing until recently called itself The Grey Wolves of Temus. The campaign began in the town of Temus, and one of the characters was a druid with a wolf (grey, of course) as her animal companion. As a DM, group names have included The Emerald Company...

    What color are yer gobins?

Mine are grey-green. My players once ran afoul of a goblin warlord who was lavender. Despite the fact that he was the campaign villain, they just couldn't take him seriously. Since then, I've stuck with more... traditional colours.

    Are knowledge skills worth it?

I love Knowledge skills. As a DM, I encourage players purchase ranks in Knowledge (Arcana), (History), (Local), (Nature) and (Religion). The more ranks a player has, the more information I volunteer when the players are considering a course of action. ("Since Torinth has 8 ranks in Knowledge...

Okay, who here LIKES the magic items and magic system in D&D?

I have no problem with the predictability of magic; adjudicating the effects of every Magic Missile and Fireball is time-consuming and adversely affects the flow of the game (IMO). However, I'm none too found of the fire-and-forget aspect. I'm trying to convince my players to adopt UA's spell...

Core concept or rule that just bugs you beyond your ability to put up with it?

I detest psionics. I recently purchased Green Ronin's Psychic's Handbook and, while it doesn't complete assauge my dislike, it is a far superior system. I may incorporate it into my next campaign. I've become disenchanted with the fire-and-forget spell system. I like to spell point system...
