D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle Insight in your game?

Here’s how I “use” Insight (IMG): If a player declares an action to look/listen for clues as to the hidden true intentions of an NPC, and it’s plausible/"in genre" for the game both that the PC could notice such clues and that the NPC could have such intentions, and it's uncertain whether such...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle monster knowledges in your game?

If the player rolls high on an Intelligence check to recall information about a monster, meaning they succeed on the check, then their PC remembers the particular details are true that the player stated as having been those the PC was trying to recall.

Against the Giants 5e PBP (Full)

Hey @FitzTheRuke , are we continuing with group 1? I think we're just waiting to roll the round. Even if it's a TPK, I think we'd all like to find out what happened and get some closure. 😅

D&D 5E (2014) Can you hear the audible version of the Alarm spell if you are more than 60 feet away?

Or, as I suggested, the sound is quiet enough that it's inaudible outside of 60'. Or the magic places the sound directly into the minds of creatures within 60', etc.

D&D 5E (2014) Can you hear the audible version of the Alarm spell if you are more than 60 feet away?

The spell only does what it says and doesn't do what it doesn't say, so the sound is not audible outside of 60 feet because the spell doesn't produce a sound outside of 60 feet. From this, it might be surmised that it's a "quiet" noise which, in my games, has a maximum range of 60 feet (2d6 x 5).

    D&D 5E (2014) The "General Nature" of a Trap

I don't think "within line of sight" requires the caster to look in a particular direction, just that a line from the caster to the trap is unobstructed.

    D&D 5E (2014) The "General Nature" of a Trap

The spell let's you (the Wisdom caster) sense the presence of a trap and learn "the general nature of the danger posed" by it. So I would focus in my description on the danger the trap represents to the PCs, in the case of your example, danger of falling and being impaled. I also found this...

    D&D 5E (2024) Why aren't Angels concidered a type of Empryeans?

Close enough to what though? I'm not sure we're working with the same concept of what this monster's supposed to be.

D&D 5E (2014) Not upgrading? What version of D&D 5e are you sticking with?

I voted 5.0 but consider 5.0 to have been completed in January 2016 with the release of the SRD and 5.1 to have commenced with the release of Curse of Strahd in March 2016 followed by the release of SRD 5.1 in May 2016, so it includes the core books plus the EEPC and SCAG as far as player...

    D&D 5E (2024) Why aren't Angels concidered a type of Empryeans?

I think it depends what we're trying to describe. The Nephilim are a race of humans with angelic ancestry (like Aasimar). "Children of the gods" is a much wider concept that doesn't necessarily entail any mortal parentage.

    D&D 5E (2024) Why aren't Angels concidered a type of Empryeans?

Empyreans seems like a strange choice of name for children of the gods of any plane. It makes some sense when limited to children of celestial gods, but the word itself suggests origination in the realm of spiritual fire, which I would equate to the Positive Plane. Now, in my homebrew cosmology...

    “Monstrous” NPCs

For the edition of D&D I play (5.0), I don't distinguish between monsters and NPCs. I have "encounters". Whether the encountered creature(s) will attack or talk first depends on a few factors: If their Int <5 and they aren't surprised, they attack. If their Int =5 or greater and the party is...
