What happened to a 3d VTT?

This is a good point. But on the other hand 4e doesn't have rules for directional facing so maybe it wouldn't have meshed together as well as we'd have hoped.

? for all those that use a VTT program currently

I assume the projector is above the table. Do the minis cause shadow problems? Do you have some kind of setup where the projector is below the table and the table top is a rear projection screen?

    Unhappy about the VT Announcement.

The OP is wrong on two counts: 1 "People don't want a VT": They do. Plus the VT might bring in an entire *new* generation of players. 2 "Because they're working on a VT that means they've abandoned all of their other projects": They're clearly working in parallel here. Just a few days ago they...

    Hasbro makes money, everyone wins

Most likely, going by DDO, there will be 2 choices for customers... a subscription option where you get all the content for a monthly fee or a pay as you go option where the VT is free but you pay for content to add to it.

What tools do you want to see?

Well, it's not 3d but... Wizards announces VT I am looking forward to it :D

Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

I don't like the new CB compared to the old one but I still like 4e. It's still one of the most fun games there is (imo of course). I even like Essentials. They just need to go forward rather than backwards in terms of their tools (which, as you've noted, are optional anyway).

    Online CB yea or nay?

I'm glad the new CB has Essentials content in addition to all the previous content. But I'm disappointed in how slow and buggy it is. The UI for items is also terrible.

    The RPG Paradox

To be fair, I don't know of many fictional influences where the main character dies before the end of the book. The whole "we want lethality" request is pretty absurd on the surface. The only way it could work in a game is either a respawn mechanic (as in World of Warcraft) or a series of...

    Hasbro makes money, everyone wins

To move this back on topic, does the hiring of Jerome Lalin (the guy responsible for bringing DDO back from the dead by making it "free to play") by WotC foreshadow a "free to play" micro transaction model for DDi? I believe it does and I also believe this is a good thing.

    A&A Europe 1940

Like I said, I think he panicked. He was off balance and unwilling to change his original plan of grabbing the income producing islands and hitting the Indian fleet. The US was close enough to get to Tokyo on the next turn but they couldn't actually invade until Japan declared war. When he...

    The RPG Paradox

This article is quite insightful, thanks for sharing it with us. I suppose I don't have a problem with D&D because I never really try to copy Conan or any of the other arch types in entertainment. I just think of my character and the party as "The heroes who do heroic things (tm)." I suppose...

    A&A Europe 1940

To be honest, Russia felt almost no pressure from it Eastern front due to China holding back Japan. It was able to do this because Japan focused mostly on India. I think Japan made a mistake by not going after Russia and/or China harder. Russia, without feeling threatened by Japan, was able to...

    Hasbro makes money, everyone wins

I'm not sure how much income D&D as a whole brings in. I'm reading the most recent quarterly report. Here's what Hasbro corporate thinks of gaming: "Revenues in the games and puzzles category for the quarter increased as a result of higher sales of MAGIC: THE GATHERING and SCRABBLE products."...

    A&A Europe 1940

Yes. At least the way we played it, if you ran out of time before you achieved victory conditions then you lost. I think if we did it again we'd give ourselves more time.

    A&A Europe 1940

Yes. Japan provoked in the Pacific turn 2 or 3. By run out of time I mean we used up all 1.5 hours on our timer while the Axis till had 25 minutes. I'm not sure on the exact turn the game was called. But the US had troops on Iwo Jima if that gives you an idea.

    A&A Europe 1940

Buying and moving was timed. Combat itself with dice rolls and units being destroyed was not timed.

    A&A Europe 1940

@Agamon - We used a chess timer and gave both sides 1.5 hours (so 3 total) but we paused it whenever it was time to roll dice or look up something in the rules (so about 4 hours overall, including setup). @Crothian - We had 5 players. One reason it took so long in the first game was some of the...

So, how many are avoiding Essentials?

I've noticed all the PHB2 threads on here and I am wondering how many of us are still playing ordinary PHB1 with no intention of going over. I don't, and no one in my group does. We came to PHB1 from World of Warcraft, a natural step. We've also invested quite a bit of time and $$$$ in PHB1...

Will the Domain-oriented Cleric in Essentials...

I played a Sun Warpriest in D&D Encounters and I liked it a lot. Almost all of my powers had rider effects. Other than Healing word and a couple of Utilities you actually have to attack something in order to buff your allies. Flavor wise this works out pretty well. The cool part is the bonuses...

    A&A Europe 1940

I just finished my 2nd game of A&A Global 1940 (the combined maps of Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940). I must admit it's pretty epic. And fun. The first game we played was back in September and was won by the allies after about 9 hours. Yesterday we used a timer which cut the game time down to...
