DMG to include a "starter town".

It's not particularly polite to refrain from saying something on a message board. Why not just talk about your ideas? I guess your brain is just so powerful that your merest thought is going to cause me some sort of pain? Have at it! The Moathouse was part of the module. I actually own the...

DMG to include a "starter town".

"Another" is not the same as "additional". They buy the "Beginners Guide to DMing" and that's all they buy. It goes into laborious, but necessary detail on how to run the basic sorts of scenarios, with examples and sidebars and such. It stays relatively short, relatively cheap. Then those...

DMG to include a "starter town".

Thanks. I wasn't being entirely snippy. But as a thought experiment, imagine what you'll think of my village 2 years from now after you've had to flip past it over and over when trying to find the actual rules. It will probably seem a lot less interesting. That's one of the problems IMO with...

Can you define the role of the Balor?

So Grazz't is a brute now? I recall this issue not being that cut and dry nor settled a while back. I guess it's been settled since. Why not the Balor? In fact, the Balor is pretty much the re-statting of the Type VI Demon from 1E, whose description made it pretty clear that he was...

Can you define the role of the Balor?

And if he's on your side he has the "ally" role, and if he didn't get much sleep that night he's on the "hates everybody" role. And if he likes poetry and dispenses advice he takes on the "wise man" roll. He could be your ally but choose to hang around you and protect you rather than charge...

Can you define the role of the Balor?

It doesn't? Do you live in Moria? :) I don't really recall the socio-economic details of Moria. Whether or not the Balrog arbitrated goblin disputes over water-rights is something I'm not clear on. I suppose I should pick a better example. Maybe I should say this - if *my* version of...

Can you define the role of the Balor?

If the role of the monster is dependant on what it's adventure context is, then why didn't the OP mention this? Isn't the question "what role does a Balor have" wind up being uanswerable without knowing about the adventure? Is what you're proposing the common definition for "monster role", and...

Here's to the extinction of the AOO

Speed is roughly distance/time. So if I'm moving 30 ft in 3 seconds or 60 ft in 6 seconds, I'm still moving the same speed. In the case of Withdraw AFAIK you are allowed a double move, that's 60 ft (all of this in the case of standard unencumbered movement). If protecting vs. an AoO was...

Here's to the extinction of the AOO

You actually withdraw at the same rate of speed that you advance, so I don't think the "slowly" part of this really applies. "Carefully" is probably more the case, because rather than fishing through your backpack looking for a potion as you withdraw, you keep your eye on your opponent. Then...

Can you define the role of the Balor?

In a place like Moria, a "Balor" would be a boss monster. On the 9th layer of Hell a Balor could very well be a minion. The concept that monsters have just one possible role IMO is strange. Is this really the design goal for 4E monsters? Are the roles really necessary? That seems to me to...

DMG to include a "starter town".

I've said over and over again that the concept of a basic boxed set could contain everything that a beginning DM needs to play the game and yet somehow you're more of an expert on what I understand than what I say? Wouldn't you have to follow the one in order to know something about the other...

DMG to include a "starter town".

Just because you feel a certain way doesn't mean any possible thing you say supports your position. In this case, a logical thing to consider as you make this argument is whether or not an example town is something you need in order to play DnD. I really shouldn't have had to say this. You...

    DDM Preview 6 Cyclops

No. DnD doesn't have to follow the myths but I think the designers should at least by half-way familiar with them. Then if they choose to ignore them it's a matter of choice. Blindsight should have been called darksight then. I think the parameters for what blindsight could be pretty well...

    Ac

Seems to me like a touch AC and Reflex save were redundant. If PCs get better at dodging things as they go up in levels, then I think it's consistent to apply that to AC as well. It also solves a bit of the problem AFAICT with the way BAB increases but ability to dodge does not.

Maybe such a guide could guide you to a store where you could buy a module.

This is what I thought when I saw this thread title too. Bravo Nifft, the balladeer would be proud.

Here's to the extinction of the AOO

IMO it's not to be visualized because the 6 second round really doesn't exist. It's not like your character withdraws and everyone else just stands there and watches you, but that's essentially literally what happens in 3E because it's turn-based. Allowing people to step back 6 squares and...

    Alignment and Party Dynamics

Yes, and so do Earth Air Fire and Water. So such concrete things can exist without people having to actually radiate any of their essence. I think devils ought to BE Lawful Evil, and I'm not particularly happy about them removing alignment from all immortals, if that's what they're doing, but...

So what's gold gonna be for?

"Ignorant" is one of those tricky words that has a plausible and sensible definition but is also a slur and so someone can reasonably pretend to use it one way and mean another. I agree with you and I think it's best avoided lest the person reading it think that you're trying to be weasily...
