help with CR of a trap and was it fair?

Understood. Will tone down. Sorry for your trouble. Saw it before, rest assured. Please do read my posts in their entirety, then you'd know. I said already(in a tone the mods dislike, as the case may be) that while drowning in acid is possible, it is too bafflingly unlikely for anyone to...

Ah, right. I see. So sorry.

    Spell question: Alter Self

You can always carry some spare clothes for your favourite forms and disguises. I do. Please do not say stuff like that. I understand you can play D&D with a Light Fantasy mindset, but please, don't say it like that was the average. I can barely hold back the ostensibly justified nerdrage.

Magic for the Masses, An Age of Industrial Enlightenment

Well Said. Spellcasters are fairly common compared to what you'd expect, and cantrips are the most versatile spells after Polymorphs, giving tremenous advantage both in dayly life and battle. You can fix broken tools with Mending, heat water with... Umm, Heat Water, find food with Foraging...

help with CR of a trap and was it fair?

    1. I'm already a DM. 2. I don't base XP distribution solely on Encounter CR. Sorry about that:P He'd get bonus for foresight if he was prepared, tough how did he have any idea he would fall into a hole filled with acid in a few hours is beyond me, and amassing bonuses is just caution in a place...

    Spell question: Alter Self

It doesn't. That's what I'm saying. Core says it melds to you regardless of size or shape, so there's nothing to separate. The part you bolded is thus overruled in the PH2, which is not in the SRD IIRC.

    Spell question: Alter Self

I second that! Always did the same. Spells from the polymorph subschool are strong enough without equipment-changing convenience added, and frankly it doesn't make sense anyway. There is, however, a core rehaul, if that's what you're looking for, on page 96 of the PH2. Essentially it says...

help with CR of a trap and was it fair?

He's still turning into goo faster. A lot faster as well, since he's submerged. No. I'd actually reduce this hypothetical situational CR because I'm probably aware he's impervious to acid, taking the acid's CR, leaving the drowning hazard's and the pit's. And that's only if he's knocked...

Magic for the Masses, An Age of Industrial Enlightenment

I don't know what they say about Communism on the West, but here, in an ex-communist country it's generally accepted that the idea in itself is not so bad. Unfair, but not bad. The ones who wanted to make it work just happened to be asshats or stupid as an orchish infant(even more so than...

help with CR of a trap and was it fair?

As long as the world doesn't automagically change for the PCs wherever they go, it's more the party's fault for walking into a dungeon that dangerous. What, did you expect a warning sign at the entrance saying "for 4-6 adventurers of 9-14th level?" Or do you suppose the DM's job involves...

Magic for the Masses, An Age of Industrial Enlightenment

I light of my theory on common magic's effects on primes, magic items would get stolen, ransacked or destroyed on a weekly basis. The plan sounds nice and jolly in a vacuum, but nowhere else. At a smaller scale, that's already in motion. But I think we can lay down a rule of thumb here: In...

Magic for the Masses, An Age of Industrial Enlightenment

Ah. So, you've gone through all that trouble and tell me why my point would be moot in an irrelevant setting to make me ask and give you an excuse to talk about your irrelevant setting, is what you're saying. I'm less annoyed than I am impressed. Well done.

    D&D 3.x Summonner synthesist in the strange land of 3.0 & 3.5

Nymph's Kiss(BOED; caution, fey significant other required) and Natural Skill(online, DM may not allow it) boosts your skillcount considerably. Can you elaborate on that? Do you want to aquire these or boost the ones you already have?

Magic for the Masses, An Age of Industrial Enlightenment

I wish I had the right to take offense to that last one. Sadly I can only confirm>.> Moving on... Now hold that thought for a moment. Plenty of dragons and outsiders are born evil. Well, Tanar'ri and Baatezu aren't exactly 'born', but you get the idea. They can change later, a lot did, but the...

What Exactly Is the Issue With the Shadowcaster and the Truenamer Classes?

Each is one side of the story, and both is a valid complaint. That makes the Truenamer unmeasurable in the Tier system. If you have the guts, go read their section in Tome of Magic right now and count how many unclear/stupid/abusable rules you can find per page. Then cry. Optimizers who can...

Magic for the Masses, An Age of Industrial Enlightenment

Let's expand on this thought process. You and the contributors applied the stimuli(that is, magic for the common folk) to the D&D world without addressing one important variable. With all the powerful and benevolent spellcasters abound(among some just so happen to be gods) who are not envious...

help with CR of a trap and was it fair?

I also think this was a fair and square encounter. CR notwithstanding, anything the PCs can do themselves at the given level is accessible to NPCs, and all you need for the trap question is a simple mechanism, a pick, a shovel and a little alchemist's DIY lab. In the worst case, if the...

    Spells that grant Free actions?

Battlemagic Perception allows you to counterspell as a free action within 100 feet of you. Less impressive are the Instant Search and Instant Locksmith spells. Both allows for a single check as a free action. And Gutsnake grows... uh, a tentacle with a pair of jaws on your... stomach, that you...

    D&D 3.x Best 3.5 spellcasting prestige classes

As a base class, let's mention Savants(edit:I'm not sure if you are asking only for PrCs, I'm sorry if I got it wrong). At large, they are abysmal spellcasters, but fantastic scholars and assistants. There is a pretty good overhaul of the class on the Playground, if you find the original too...

    fighting deities question

Hey, what do ya know. IIRC, Deities do have DR/Epic. Lemme check... yep, they do. Like it was said before, it doesn't really matter if they are hit with a nat 20 - they just shrug it off. They still should be hit, normally; a given entity's godly power makes a big difference.
