    QB's Monstrous Races

Looking over the earlier kobold offering from this thread and this newer version, I like what I'm seeing. The wide variety offered by the 5 Draconic Gifts and 12 Kobold Mutations are delightful - I can imagine that if Tucker's Kobolds had this much variety, that we might never have heard of...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Are Rangers Arcane Spellcasters?

I think it comes from the development of the ranger class in early editions of the game. The Vancian mechanic of needing spell components was built in to ranger spell casting. What follows is my brainstorming on possible reasons. Some things to consider: 1) Where most other spell casters have...

D&D 5E (2014) Way of the Temporal Hand (Monk Archetype) [Peach]

I'm glad you found it. Although I've got a copy of it, I couldn't find where I'd originally come across it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Cantor (Bard Variant - Draft) PEACH

I just noticed your mention of color-based magic. Recently, I read one of Brandon Sanderson's recent novels about a world in which magic is also color-based. It's a pretty good tale; perhaps you've already read it. If not, the unfolding explanations of how color is incorporated into magic and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Cantor (Bard Variant - Draft) PEACH

Good suggestions. Maybe incorporating a variant Magic Initiate feat into the Cantor's 3rd-level features, with the feature taking a 1st-level spell granted by the favored Domain, but not getting the Domain itself. The two cantrips and the spell would then count as bard spells, so Charisma would...

D&D 5E (2014) Way of the Temporal Hand (Monk Archetype) [Peach]

I came across this thread after this: Last edited by Hathorym; Yesterday at 06:37 PM. This is wonderful. Having just seen the Dr. Strange movie, it seems you have shared this with us at a fortuitous time. I really like this. The ki cost mechanic is well structured. I...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Bard Colleges!

Yes, regarding new class/archetype options. From what I've seen, the one class that has seen the fewest proposed 3rd-party/homebrew options is the paladin. Maybe that's because the paladin as described in the PHB meets expectations of what the class should be better than the other classes do?

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Bard Colleges!

Delightful assessment! Replace the poison condition with imposing disadvantage on saving throws until the end of the target's next turn, essentially and momentarily "poisoning" the target's self-confidence. It seems to me that would better suit the theme of the college. Make the scaled...

Intriguing concept, and worth developing further.

    AD&D 1E 1E Addition to 5E I would Pay A Premium For

When my first copy of the 5e PHB started falling apart (I did eventually buy a later printing), I decided to put the time into separating all the pages and putting them into a 3-ring binder. It may not be a solution for others, but it works for me. I keep the binder beside my home computer for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Looking for 5e Nentir Vale Resources

http://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/01/07/madness-at-gardmore-abbey-5e-conversion/ I had to Google to find where I'd run across it, but this link will bring up the article and the link to the adventure is found within that. I was mistaken about it's being a DMs Guild offering.

    D&D 5E (2014) Looking for 5e Nentir Vale Resources

There's a "Madness at Gardmore Abbey - a fan-made conversion for D&D 5E" - available from the DMs Guild. The last 10 pages are conversions of monsters and NPCs. The copy I downloaded shows a "Last Updated May 30, 2015", so there may be a more recent update on it. That's the only one I know of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Perception vs Investigate

Character class has a role to play in the Investigation vs. Perception choice, and a PC's relative levels of Int vs. Wis. Not everyone is going to have high stats in both of those. Many PCs are going to have one of them that's better than the other. Even untrained, such characters will simply...

    QB's Monstrous Races

Whenever designing variable traits, the best designs I've seen have included in the trait description the specific trait that the variable trait would be replacing. That's a necessary element to keep the character balanced.

    D&D 5E (2014) I want to play as a LionFolk in 5e

Check out the Southlands Heroes for 5E from Kobold Press for a take on a different application of the desire for a leonid race. Originated for the Midguard take on the 13th Age platform, the sourcebook includes a Werelion race. The werelion, like your idea above, seems a bit overpowered to me...

D&D 5E (2014) Pact of the Chain question

My impression is that the RAI are meant to reduce the ticks o' the clock in combat encounters; every additional action that a player takes on a turn likely increases the length of time it takes to play the encounter. Time's not a problem if you give your familiar a Wand of Death Stars, although...

    Homebrewed Warforged for 5th Edition

Regarding the variant rule for Warforged and Rust Monsters: 1) A rust monster's attack only affects nonmagical ferrous metal armor plating, as per the MM (I assume that is already the intent). 2) You might want to consider giving weapon attacks advantage against the warforged character...
