D&D 5E (2014) A Maze that works in actual play?

Damned intriguing challenge. My few attempts over the decades at designing a maze that keeps the players engaged without getting bored/irritated achieved only meager success. This is proving to be educational. P.S. Hope your Al-Qadim play-testing is going well.

D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Core Classes- Fighter Wins!

Wow! Still chuckling. A Happy Ending for our Cavalier. I wasn't sure how he'd get there, but I'm well-satisfied with how it worked out. And what a cast of characters ... I can't wait for the movie! Until then, I've got ideas for a variant Charlatan background: the Tax Collector. Wait 'til they...

D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Core Classes- Fighter Wins!

The allusion took me a moment on this one. "Who's Done, we have a problem." A pun that sneaks up on you, and subtly points a finger at Apollo. That's good. Blame it all on that other pantheon.

D&D 5E (2014) Character Backstories: Care to share?

@ jgsugden. Wow. Simply ... wow. This is what many a player dreams of: creating a character that, by happenstance, deservedly becomes an NPC of legendary importance beyond those adventures the player was there for.

D&D 5E (2014) Character Backstories: Care to share?

@BoldItalic I see your way with absurd comedy preceded giving the Cavalier Duke Cholmondley a Happy Ending. I hereby dub thee "Wit-Lark" (in bold italic, of course), as your proficiency in taking your wit on a lark is approaching the profound.

What?!? That's all we get from Bubba-Hotep? A cameo?!?!

No fair! I have vulnerability to Egyptology! Its distractions leave me charmed at the least, and sometimes stunned!

D&D 5E (2014) Why wimpy SLING damage and range?

Add the dual-function of usage as a quarterstaff in melee, and I'm with you. That's akin to a combat rifle's utilization as a melee bludgeoning weapon when out of ammunition ... ... and that's not even considering adding a spear point to the opposite end of the staff from the sling. Which...

D&D 5E (2014) Why wimpy SLING damage and range?

I'd drop the long ranges to the game standard of no more than four times the short range. Otherwise, I view this as a reasonable home rule.

OMG - Gobblet rouged the rogue! Don't you hate it when that happens?

D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Core Classes- Fighter Wins!

A sigh was heard coming from a ceiling corner on the far side of the room. Long the record holder for overly long, odd terms, the spirit of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious recognized that a new champion had emerged. Intra-extra-ultra-mantra-meta-mini-maxi-micro dicota-clasmic existentialism...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Fumbles a core rule?

Oops! I missed the intended meaning of your comment.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Fumbles a core rule?

Yes, it does. As Jeremy Crawford has stated time and time again (most often in Sage Advice), if a description (whether of a rule, a spell, a feature, etc.) includes something, it specifically states it in that description. Critical failures are not mentioned in the core rules, therefore, they...

Industry Great Stewart Wieck Passes Away At Age 49

Stuart Wieck should have had more years of life; his family and friends should have had more time with him. This came decades too soon. My heart goes out to them.

D&D 5E (2014) Why wimpy SLING damage and range?

Think "Arms Race". History is one long line of weapon design improvements. The object is always to seek an advantage over one's enemies. Every weapon has its strengths and weaknesses, and its moment in time. It also has the potential, if not already realized, of being rendered relatively...

D&D 5E (2014) Why wimpy SLING damage and range?

The warfare history network link Pranqstr provided above mentioned the use of the "sling stick", which provided greater range, and could also be used as a melee weapon. Time to import the kender's "hoop-stick" from Dragonlance/Krynn to Faerun, hmmm?

Free RPG Day: Starfinder Preview, TORG Quickstart, New Runequest And Women In Magic

"Free RPG Day isn't perfect. For an event that is now ten years old, it should really have much better market penetration than it does. Some of this can likely be put upon the shoulders of the "marketing" from the Free RPG Day organization, while some can be put onto individual game store...
