    What would you rule?

Everything you can do I can do better, I can do anything better than you... But I dont unless you do it first. Technically, first and second. To put it bluntly, using something like that once is a clever use of resources in a desperate situation. Using it again constitutes player proposing a...

What to do when it's not your turn

How would adding a house rule that makes the game go slower make the game go faster? 15 min between rounds?!? For me running 4e, that is about a dozen people at the table. Split the group in half and run two games.

Dislike 4E? You can write off 5E

Depends on what they do. I feel that 4e is starting to need a 4.5e. As in a major tweak to the system to get everything back in line. Should they do that, it may not be all that bad. Even if they decide to call it 5th edition. I do reserve the right to post 'I told you so' repeatedly tho...

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

This pretty much sums up the problems I have that cause this thread. Swordmage marking works quite a bit differently than the marking abilities of any of the other defenders. The 'on a hit' and the 'until used on another' are the biggest differences. It is the only permanent mark, and the only...

    Male gamers: Weal or woe?

Somehow, I doubt that your problem is common. :) To be honest, I really dont have any good advice for you. No basis of reference on my part. I wouldnt put up with someone being a drag on the game tho.

    D&D 4E What Doesn't 4E Do Well?

This is the difference between role playing and roll playing. Good DMing and bad DMing also. If you all had a good amusing plan, he should have just used some judgement instead of rules. Skill checks and challenges have their place. Personally, social skill challenges are a last resort, not a...

Finalized Hybrid Rules - What's new?

No and only once and another time if you paragon hybrid.

Two fighter questions: mark, footwork lure.

Considering the number of people who I have seen try to refute relativity without knowing freshman physics, I have to disagree. Ignorance is sneaky the same way an ogre is sneaky when it hides behind a sapling

    D&D 4E What Doesn't 4E Do Well?

Judging from recent discussions, I would say one place where 4e is a bit worse is in allowing a DM to DM. I dont mean preparing for the game, in that respect 4e is a light-years ahead of nearly any game I have seen. I mean in having the DM as an ajudicator. The rules in 4e are much more...

Minions are immune to non-targeted effect damage? Is this right???

Ive done about the same thing. L1 minions skeletons, about 5 or so added per round, till the party got through the door. It was great fun. A really good way to have a massive combat without it bogging down.

    D&D 4E What Doesn't 4E Do Well?

If you need magic items, I feel sorry for you. created it again incomplete answer. it should be they do, or you could have an intelligent DM a broken watch is right twice a day It must be nice to see everything. I have seen very differently. Finally something we can agree on.

Did your DM have to tear the points off your ears?

    Defensive Healing Word Cheese

Yeah, it is cheese, but could you catch a mouse with it? I dont even think this should be corrected. Yeah, it probably should be till end of encounter, but so what? Either the DM will allow it and just take it into account when playing, or the DM will convince the players that abusing the...

    Running Away

ooohh, you could get a party of pacifists who make epic tier without ever killing anything that way. Brave Brave Brave Sir Robin! When danger reared its ugly head He bravely turned his tail and fled! Brave Brave Brave Sir Robin! /this concludes your gratuitous Monty Python reference for this...

The Implications of Biology in D&D

Actually I think that this is an even more generic concept that too many DMs do not think about. If the players can do X, especially if it is explicitly stated in the rules, then the bad guys should know that. Maybe not your dumb baddies, but the supergenius necromancer would consider the...

The Implications of Biology in D&D

Any sufficiently quantified magic is indistinguishable from technology. The thing about any fantasy setting is that you cannot even prove that the laws of physics work the same way, or are even the same laws at all. As a result, any science is whatever you want it to be. Biology, ecology...

    Punishing Your Dice

If I start rolling badly enough, I get all the dice together, then take a hammer to the offender. Dosent help to have capital punishment if there are no witnesses. I got to be pretty notorious at the local game store. It got to the point that when I went to the front of the store to get the...

DMs sure can make life hard... :(

It dosent matter wether the DM was good or bad. It dosent matter that the encounter design was good or bad. All that matters is that the fight was not fun. If things are getting so bad that players are wanting to quit the game, then there is a problem. It dosent matter if the fights are easy...

DMs sure can make life hard... :(

You have 10 people and your answer to a world class crappy DM is suck it up? Tell the DM and his sidekick to take a long walk off a short pier. Tell them that they are too dumb to mess with the fundamental rules of the game, and that you arent going to put up with that. Also, I have to agree...
