    D&D 5E (2014) Knowlage checks

How do people handle knowledge checks? The form that was drilled into me is that players make a knowledge check and it's the DMs job to pull out some useful information to give to the player, but I don't really like that style. It's very reliant on the DM to come up with bits of information and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Impossible Ability Test

If it was up to me, and it's not, I would allow the roll. I always let my players try. It is just more fun that way. If it was something like a creature so rare that literally no one has seen it before, then your roll might simply confirm that and offer you no information.

Pathfinder 1E May there be non-evil societies of always evil races? What would they be like?

One idea i had was for demon Quakers. Demons that left the hells to lead simple quite lives of contemplation. They would be ship builders and wear very plain clothing (that would visually clash with the fact a lot of them have extra limbs and tentacles.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnome Tinker

Oh! and I was getting excited. :Z It would have been nice if it did have rules on inventing. I haven't seen many good ones. They tend to be mechanical focused, two narrow or two wide, and they tend not to capture the wonder of being creative.

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnome Tinker

What dose it say in the DMG?

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnome Tinker

Item combos work really well. Like a dagger that extends to a sword, or a healing kit with a hidden grappling hook. It feels neat theme wise, but it's not all that powerful to be able to carry two items in a single item. You could add in an ability to just combine two items for a cost of gold...

Writing games - advice on motivation

You write badly. Basically you write the first thing you think of, then the next and the next. Doesn't matter if it's good or if ti even makes sense you can edit it latter. The idea is to get words out until your no longer stuck. I also find that long boring activities normally sprout a idea or two.

D&D 5E (2014) The Wonkiness of Tool Proficiency

I believe the reason there isn't just a disable device skills is because for the longest time in the playtest skills were going to be an optional thing and they needed something to let rogues do rougey things. It makes perfect sense when you kind of forget about or ignore the skill list. Like in...

    D&D 5E (2014) S O L O games...,

You kind of don't have to do everything. That is to say you don't have to do everything in the most direct and simple way. There will almost never be a problem that requires you do it in one and only one way, so the player should still have the ability to try and play to their strengths. It's...

    Your Campaign Ideas?

Paranoia that is what it was. I don't know why I thought it was called alpha complex. :S I did look a little into paranoia. It kind of fits conceptually being that they are both PA games set in this still functioning, but far out of date utopia. Though in the details things don't line up as...

    Your Campaign Ideas?

Ok. I have a idea for a spelljammer ripoff (I got frustrated with trying to find actual spelljammer info so I just stared making things up.) It's basically spelljammer only the ships don't run off magic. There are space winds so you can just use sails. Suns would orbit around planets. You...

    Your Campaign Ideas?

Asking this to me is like asking for crazy. I have oh so many ideas my players refuse to let me try. Lets see what I can list. I have a idea for a spelljammer ripoff (I got frustrated with trying to find actual spelljammer info so I just stared making things up.) I want to run a campaign where...

    X-Com: the Redshirtening

For some reason, I thought maid RPG... (I think because I have pondered using that system to run a dungeon keeper like game where the players manage different departments and that is kind of like what you want to do here.) Anyway I am pondering that you could do kind of a pseudo D&D 5ed thing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mass Combat

I would remove the maximum damage rule. You don't need it, it's clunky and I think it would Nerf some types of characters. The idea seems to be a way for the mechanics to emulate mechanics. It makes a lot of sense for one big strike to deal more damage (physical/moral) to a horde then a single...

D&D 5E (2014) Skilled contests and advice wanted

You forgot about class abilities. The rouge gets a few nice abilities that makes them good with skills. You could extend some of these abilities to other classes. The ability to re-roll skill checks could be a decent idea maybe? Something like you get one free re roll on skill challenges per 4...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

But would it be a problem if they did overlap? Edit I had to fix a slip of the tongue. It would be a problem if they stacked.

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Dose the overlap with skills and tools matter? Proficiency bonuses don't stack so it shouldn't be a big uses to have a task with multiple opportunities to be proficient in it or am I missing something?

D&D 5E (2014) Player characters as heirs and eventually rulers

That is going to be one high subterfuge check. Spy rings in other kingdoms could count as feats for the kingdom. Something like +2 to subterfuge and the ability to use your proficiency bonus when you gather information in or spy on that kingdom. You could even do feats representing their best...

D&D 5E (2014) Player characters as heirs and eventually rulers

Ask them what the terrain is like. (Tropical island chain, vast blue desert, a deep wooden forest.) Ask what their cites look like. (Rundown ports with buildings made of wrecked ships, Colorful tent cites always on the move, Tree houses that wrap around massive trees.) What the people are like...
