    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Skills whats your opinion

I tend not to think of skills as skills, but as different proficiency bonuses. One thing I don't like is that they seem to treat the skill list as 'the' list. I would have liked it if there was no skill list just different skills that come from different places.

    Failing Forward

One idea I have thought about would be to include a stress system as a fail forward system. It's tricky to think of a punishment for every failed action, even trickier if you want the two to be related. The idea is that failing a roll generates stress and when stress gets to much, ... well some...

And what dose that mean? What happens when you lose good standing?

    D&D 5E (2014) Social Challenges & Political Conflicts

What happens when you make it to zero social hp? Can you just not talk anymore? Social combat doesn't seem to have the neat win/lose states violent combat dose.

    Failing Forward

I really like this idea of classic D&D. Everything you do matters. If you pick a lock and fail, that is time spent to buy more enemies to kill you. That is a fail-forward system in theory I think. Because even failing a check changes the board. I imagine it's kind of hard to actually maintain...

    Failing Forward

The thing about picking a lock is if you pass you progress, if you fail, then... Well most of the time nothing happens and you just try picking it again. Failing to pick a lock just stalls the game out. The idea with a fail forward system is to pull out these stall moments. The idea is to let a...

    Failing Forward

Well I mean rain introduces a more diverse set of changes. If your picking a lock and brake your pick, well you can't pick other locks. Meanwhile rain dose a lot. You have all kinds of penalties in it, some bonuses attached to it. Though the general idea wasn't bad lockpicks cause rain, it more...

    Failing Forward

I am not 100% sure about either version. I mean if you think about it, then you can kind of justify the logic. "It took you longer then you expected and the rain started." (You could also foreshadow something like that letting the players know a storm is coming and that they need to move fast to...

    Failing Forward

I love the idea of fail forward systems. They help the story flow forward. The annoying bit is that your can't always match up logical disadvantages with the action. You often have to make up your own on the spot and that can feel a little random if handled poorly. Like I recall one zombie game...

Spelljammer Spelljammer, 5e, and the general angst against all things space

You hit on my idea of a ideal spelljammer setting. You really don't want to include full planets especially full planets that have stacks of books on them. That will just distract from the spell jamming. I would design the world like the cluster you describe. Very few full planets and just focus...

Spelljammer Spelljammer, 5e, and the general angst against all things space

I would love a remake of the d20 modern line. The setting would work so well with the new mechanics of 5ed.

    Stealth and Vision

Vision ya, but I guess it depends on what you want to do. Like are we talking about a system where one player can see someone, but another player cant? That would be a little tricky. My idea would be to use face down cards to keep a secret record of what is where.

D&D 5E (2014) Help with the Crafting System

No worries. I likely had as much care writing it as you did reading it. :P Ya basically with time you really don't need to worry about the small stuff. Can it be done on command? Can it be done in a day? Can it be done week? Can it be done in a month? Year? Lifetime? So long as it feels close...

D&D 5E (2014) Help with the Crafting System

Well when it comes to time, I don't think you need a formula or anything. Just rule that most mundane items take 8 work hours to complete unless the item it larger then a horse or more complex then a clock. Then it takes a a week. For magic potions, I think you could get away with an hour a...

How to Encourage Melee Combat in a Sci-fi Setting? (5e)

Environment can be a factor. If you on a ship, melee is very good, and you can most combat in places that let you get close. If you want to do the fields idea, maybe they only work when the attack is far enough away that the field has time flicker on? That is less of a general pain to range and...

Spelljammer Spelljammer, 5e, and the general angst against all things space

I just don't think your players will go for it. From the responses they give they sound like Potatoes and dragons type players. I guess you could try a really slimmed down version and pitch that to them, but that might not work. I tried to pitch the idea to my friends and they just don't like...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

That... could make for a rather interesting game.

D&D 5E (2014) Could we do with one more skill?

The way I picture it. If you have a player who wants to rig up a pulley, it's a simple int check. If you want a class, race or something to be really good at engineering I say you can add it as a new proficiency. (In my mind, I blur the line between proficiency types.)

    Rebalancing the Ability Scores: Constitution

Take con away from HP, or maybe just have it give a flat HP boost? That might make it a little too weak though.

    D&D 5E (2014) I don't want to homebrew anymore...

Well you can just play forgotten Realms. It's a neat setting. Not everything needs to be home made. On the other hand, If you really want some creative inspiration, you might have to look outside of the D20. (pathfinder and D&D 5ed aren't actually that different.) Look around for something...
