    Any decent wizard encounter 1's?

This is pretty much exactily what I do. Heck, sometime I don't even stick that close; two weeks ago the party fought a giant snake who's AC was equal to it's other defense: AC was the 'weakness', the others were a little higher than normal. Extra bastardy since it had a grab at-will and that...

Thanks, Shroomy. That's a good analysis and puts me a bit more at-ease for epic psionic types. My main worry is that I usually open with at-wills to feel out an opponent, and I'd be sad if psionic types need to spend resources to keep up doing such things. The other weird thing about the ardent...

    Encounter difficulty with 3 players

Having run a 3 person group for a while, I can tell you creating / using interesting minions is the answer. At higher level I believe you can do more with n-1 to n-4 opponents, though it depends a bit on party defenses...

That doesn't tell me if an attack that triggers my divine sanction on a minion ever resolves, though. We know the action, but not the 'speed'. Is it an interrupt or a reaction.

    Any decent wizard encounter 1's?

In general I find the Fort is bad Will is good argument to generally be BS, as it's entirely dependent on the DM. I was trying to be less acidic than that in my comments above. As a DM I make it a point to juggle defenses a lot over the course of games/encounters/campaigns. Since I print...

can i force my own slide power to fizzle?

You don't have to do anything so convoluted. "You can choose to move [the target] fewer squares or not at all" PH 285

    Any decent wizard encounter 1's?

Winged horde needs to be nerfed. Fort is only a 'better' defense statistically. It depends on the DM, it's not true in the abstract (though if you're running WotC modules I hear it's pretty much true). Skirmishers and lurkers, for instance, tend to have lowish fort; the cold-based spells that...

Interrupts resolve before the triggering action. If the triggering action is no longer valid/possible they can prevent it (kill something before it attacks, move them out of range et cetera). Reactions resolve after the trigger. Opportunity actions you can take once per each other character's...

Deadly haste strike. Dear god. The only thing I can see keeping this in line is that missing doesn't deal any damage... http://www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/power.aspx?id=10454 One, two, three or four creatures, shift your speed between each attack, 3[W]+Con on each hit and you get a...

Does your ranger use a crossbow?

That's not really a problem in a game where you can trip a gelationous cube... The problem is it would have been possible to make crossbows different and interesting. Don't let weapons with a load time be used for powers that attack more than once, then design some powers that require and...

    Battlemind article out

I'm so glad the Curse of the Crimson throne game I'm playing in is nearly over, because if not I'd need to re-stat my Cha based Kalashatar paladin as a battlemind. I really like the class. For one thing the 'cheep' augments are designed far better than the psion or the ardent. The psion's in...

Does your ranger use a crossbow?

With a crossbow, no. It just doesn't really work for me. Now I've never given people issues with it in game, nor do I plan to. But I sort of wish crossbows were completely different mechanically and forced you into less frequent but more devastating attacks rather than just sharing attacks with...

Does your ranger use a crossbow?

This is actually one of the few verisimilitude sticking points for me (particularly with blinding barrage).... level one rogues shooting 9 times with a crossbow in 6 seconds is a bit of an issue.

Yeah, we totally didn't argue about this for the seeker... Of course a lot of people may just handwave everything that isn't martial.

D&D 4E [4e] Why not savor the PHB3? Major spoilers on the new races and classes.

I'm thinking, for the psion at least: Buy in - Gain an At-Will. You can use this power unaugmented once per encounter. Encounter Swap - Loose an encounter, gain 2 power points (or more based on the level of the power). Since then you'd have power points and get some of the flexibility of your...

Statistically with reasonable to hit numbers the optimal number of shrouds to trigger is 2; big numbers are not always better. The main reason to use 4 is where you can stack them up then pop some sort of leadery to-hit bonus for one round.

    Sneak attacks with spells

When 4E was new weapons as implements were assumed to work very differently than they're assumed to work now... It's a day one issue, though, due to the pact dagger. It's just that until the Sorcerer there wasn't a combination where it would be good.

Nice catch. Also good to see that superior implements aren't as intrinsically stupid as superior weapons. I'll most likely re-flavor them anyway, but it's much more solid design to make them mostly based on existing implements rather than have a new class of 'more awesome' implements...

    Skirmishing Warlord

Melee Training: Charisma just called, it wants its straw-man status back. Really, with a long bow with something like 100 lbs. of draw, Str makes perfect sense for attacking, heck it was used for damage in earlier editions with bows. Crossbows less so of course. 4E would be surprisingly easy...
