D&D 5E (2014) The actual adventuring day is 3-4 encounters per day, Wizards just last minute decided to make Easy Encounters from the playtest, the average.

Reread that and point out where it sets anything as a standard. The 6-8 number is the floor is not the standard or average. if you are using exp budget for a PHB/ non option rule party of marginal skill it a rough boundary for not murdering them. The DMG really only gives you the outline to...

D&D 5E (2014) The actual adventuring day is 3-4 encounters per day, Wizards just last minute decided to make Easy Encounters from the playtest, the average.

There's no such thing as a standardized, suggested, or normalized adventuring day in 5e just like there wasn't any in the Next play testing. The encounter count in both were just a guideline for those looking to use exp budgets as a framework. The whole idea of the game being balanced around...

D&D 5E (2014) How long would it take to mine a gold vein in medieval times?

The limitation would probably be the smelting and extraction phase rather than the physical mining if you view gold to act akin to it's RL counterpart. England needed huge amounts of wood to make charcoal to fuel forges. Reason why most of their old growth disappeared.

    D&D 5E (2014) i wanna make a Gunslinger vampire/demon hunter

5e is extremely flexible with it comes to creating characters with a certain thematic flair. Personally I like an artificer/rogue here. Knowledge and planning are the best weapons when dealing with extra planar threats.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

I will say for those who haven't actually sat down and read the 4e system I'd highly recommend it. Not a review or a anything of that sort but the actual game. Even if you have no plans to ever run it as it is 4e has a lot of little ideas and design angles that are great and can be ported over...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Well WoTC. I don't necessarily believe paizo has a better system but boy did they present it a lot clearer and in a format that is more user friendly. I know technically Pathfinder isn't dnd but it is.

D&D 5E (2014) Best way to deal with greedy players and magic items in a fun game.

Just talk to the player in question. alone preferably. 90% they don't have any idea that thier actions are causing grief. If it doesn't get resolved then I'd go to the rest of the table for resolution.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Because players like bigger values. Unlike 3.x or even 5e forth edition had a good idea what odds they wanted and how each layer of investment had an impact. So unlike 5e bounded accuracy concept they needed a way to differentiate a easy check at level 1 compared to level 20 so they used a...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Lol that I can agree with. WoTC has never had a strong editorial staff.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Aye. Much like how 5e also stuffers from carryover issues even if the system in fact doesn't have or at least addressed them.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

One of the common misconceptions on how 4e was structured was that it had a built-in challenge treadmill where everything mostly matched up with the players progression so as they gained power and more skills the world changes so the odds basically never shift. This isn't actually how the game...

    D&D 5E (2014) Automatic Damage from Features??

In that case if it's not worth the table time then cut it or replace it with something that is. You can even still keep the same effect by just having a line that says that any creature below a certain CR just dies if they were within a certain distance. Same for the auto hitting attack like...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

You can definitely say that a lot of npc blocks are boring sacks of HP but you can't blame bounded accuracy for that. It has no impact on anything but the accuracy of said features.

    D&D 5E (2014) Automatic Damage from Features??

Guess your table avoid minions. Small but unavoidable Auto damage is a great and flavorful way for a npc to wipe out massive groups of low health creatures. Lot for them also have multiple triggers like the flame aura. A balor is melting hordes of anything not immune to fire.

Fire aura with the balor as well. On an off note small doses of unavoidable damage are an underused feature

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Note. All of his videos and interviews on this topic are after 5e was out for quite a while. They weren't finding this out on play testing but actual table play. Hence the shift in design with action economy and features to permit the use in the first 1-2 rounds rather than multi rounds. They...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Basically they have been experimenting with npc blocks format changes every step of the way because they don't have any rules that preventing it and they are aware a large enough portion of their consumer base are dissatisfied. This doesn't devalue those who liked the previous format or don't...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

It's just another example of how people are reading into the game and confusing common patterns with design intent. A lot of the core things that are upsetting a subset of players/DMs never actually existed. The adventuring day isn't broken because a table can't maintain the 6-8 average because...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Nope. Give chapter 3 a read with fresh eyes. It says stuff like Assuming.... average...most...medium or maybe hard..we have no idea figure it out..(ok that last part isn't there but it's implied) All that is based on the exp budget model which again isn't based on anything more concrete than...
