D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

It isn't tho. It's an assumption based on baggage from older editions and a misinterpretation of what the DMG actually says. It is not a baseline or assumed pacing requirement whatsoever

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

They never made any claim in min or max side of encounters per recovery cycle. They are adamant that they didn't even give a suggestion.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Its ok in that regard but if you changed the format a tad so DMs might realize that opening with flight of the damn(or any cone) even if it's on a cool down isn't always the best opening or how he can yoyo out of his globe of "screw your spells" (what ever level fits your party)with two teleport...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

.. because it's based on feed back on what a party could handle with a built in buffer for DM mistakes? The exp budget is based on exp, which is based on CR, which is based on.... Nothing. Nothing is hiding behind the curtains with 5e. It's a hobbled mass of barely functional ideas and we love...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Probably because the game makes no such assumption of pacing or encounter count. 5es dirty secret is that it only maintains an illusion of balance which is probably a good thing because that's why it maintains it's inherent flexibility. The 6-8 encounter thing was an ad hoc suggestion based on...

D&D 5E (2014) How many players would use a service like this

Very much so. I've done fill in at locals for AL and man is the gap huge.

D&D 5E (2014) Get The Vecna Dossier Free At D&D Beyond

Just got finished reviewing my notes over a one shot I ran with Vecna last night. Overall of the party has zero knowledge of his potential in the meta sense he is deadly just due to having so many different ways of chipping parties down while staying relatively stable himself. The party wasn't...

D&D 5E (2014) How many players would use a service like this

I love AL. It's like a filter for players I want at my tables lol.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Which was 4e downfall. It misread the interest in those within the video game, tactical war game market as what was the driving motivation for those who play them. 4e has a lot of good ideas but it was so perfectly fitted together it has players and DMs tearing it apart at the seams screaming...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Aye. If you talk to local brick and mortar locations they will tell you the wave was churning before wizard even recovered from 4es stall out. They also did read the market enough to know the over saturated market of codified forms of RPGs was losing steam so they flipped back their back...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Timing was perfect honestly which was dumb luck than anything. It was interesting watching TTRPGS grow in the 00s basically in the dark with minimal market then the perfect storm of cross media exposure and nostalgia hit and boom. My player pool tripled basically overnight before next even...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

That's one of the key problems with trying to target DMs as a market. Gaps in skills and needs are so different. like I think random tables are a 100% waste of ink and page space but some DMs live off them. I happy middle ground would be to have a sample table and then a format for building them...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

I think that's more of a happy accident than a purposely targeted sales model. DMs buy more stuff because the tend to just have a higher investment in the hobby overall but because they make up a fraction of the pool it doesn't warrant the volume in which they publish. It also doesn't really...

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Let's be honest. Anything DM facing has always been a distant afterthought for WoTC. If there didn't include the updated racial options in MToM it wouldn't sell enough copies to warrant printing. I give them some leeway here because the DM pool is extremely diverse in skill, style, and need when...

D&D 5E (2014) Which common monsters/creature types do you exclude from your campaigns?

Orcs or what not are fine as long as you don't randomly have exceptions making paradoxes of lore. No one has a problem with gnolls because they don't have threads tying back to humanity. If it's an unredeemable force of evil rather than a victim of some god's anger issues it's fine. Eberron...

D&D 5E (2014) How would YOU build Vecna?

More like a goth teenage lich stage.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Aye. The mystic actions in fizban is a nice idea but I prefer to go the other direction.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

I use a hybrid now where the recharge is set at 2-6 but can auto recharge from triggers like failure of save, landing or missing a certain attack, dropping below a % HP, or taking a certain type of damage. Easy way to add a lot of tactical depth with little work.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

Aye. Recharge work very well to add some spontaneously and depth to NPCs without a ton of paperwork.

D&D 5E (2014) How many players would use a service like this

I get paid in food a lot of time which for me is probably close to 20-30 $/HR I've done some pro/paid gigs in the past. Not my cup of tea.
