    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Hanlon's razor... "Never attribute to malice what can instead be chalked up to simple incompetence." Beyond spent 5+ years not being able to implement Barbarian Rage or add a way to show that a character had Mage Armor active. If they could spend all this time failing to implement a...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Yes, there's no toggle to turn the 2024 rules off across the board for a character sheet. You get both spell lists visible for your characters and have to pick "Legacy." Similar for the weapons. Lance and monk damage were changed to 2024 rules, and probably a few other things like magic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I missing something on 2014 rogue?

I have also had a rogue outlast the entire rest of the party in a tough encounter due to the ability to Disengage and Uncanny Dodge.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I missing something on 2014 rogue?

Rogues are generally OK in my experience. The one caveat is that they don't have the ability to greatly increase their damage, which makes them seem weak in nova situations. Fighters can action surge (+ubercrit/maneuver/fighting spirit), Paladins can smite+smite+smite spell, casters can use...

D&D 5E (2024) Level adjustment from 3.5 and how to handle it in 5(.5)E?

I recently did a game where I had an adult silver dragon character. I ended up running it with the Silver Dragon statblock + feats/ASIs/class features for a 15th level storm sorcerer, but no extra HP. The sorcerer levels added versatility but did not appreciably increase damage. That's on the...

D&D 5E (2024) Level adjustment from 3.5 and how to handle it in 5(.5)E?

LA was too flawed. 5e is more homebrew friendly, and I think it's up to the DM to make adjustments. Since the space between the power floor and the power ceiling is substantially lower, I'd probably homebrew things. Someone wants to play an troll or ogre? Ok. +4 str, Large, -2 Dex, +2 Con...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

I've done some of my own rules, but I've also had to look up edge cases. My players have come up with a few that don't even have a Stackexchange thread!

D&D General Which 3.0/3.5 Prestige classes would make good 5e subclasses? (+)

It's 5e. He's mostly using the Short Sword of Backstabbing +2 (+2 short sword, +2d6 sneak attack) and the Tuigan Bow +1 (Short Bow +1 of speed).

D&D General Which 3.0/3.5 Prestige classes would make good 5e subclasses? (+)

You probably don't want to hear about the 13th level rogue in my Baldur's Gate II game. I think he's carrying about 7 magic weapons around right now.

D&D General Which 3.0/3.5 Prestige classes would make good 5e subclasses? (+)

My wife's 5.14 PDK dual wielder is working out fine. She's level 11 and currently dual wielding a Mace of Disruption and a +2 Trident in Castle Dracula. hit hit hit and then either a 4th hit or 1d10+44 healing spread amongst the party as a BA. Simple and effective enough!

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

Live play in person, occasionally online if people are sick. Slow play via forums.

D&D General Which 3.0/3.5 Prestige classes would make good 5e subclasses? (+)

The biggest attraction of that PrC to me (especially in NWN) was all the stat boosts you couldn't obtain otherwise. Strength +8, Con +4 or 6, a charisma boost, and maybe wings/flight. I don't think it came with spellcasting.

D&D General Which 3.0/3.5 Prestige classes would make good 5e subclasses? (+)

PrCs Arachnomancer/Verminlord: Wizard or Sorcerer, gets powers to talk to vermin, swarm controls, and buffs to their bug-based spells plus a couple of 1/day "spells". Arcane transformation: Green Star Adept/Acolyte of the Skin/etc. Sorc subclass where the main features are taking on more...

D&D General Do you track ammunition?

I only make my players track magic ammo.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I read the Hobbit to the boys first, when they were around 8 & 6. Next, we did the Silmarillion to my boys when they were around 9 & 7 (give or take). We are now up to the Cormallen Fields in ROTK, and they are 10 & 8. I tried to start Narnia first, but my older son recognized the White Witch...

D&D General Why did you have to cancel/reschedule your most recent session?

This year, the reasons have been: I, the DM, have been out of town (2x) One or more players have been sick (2x?) Someone had to finish a school paper (2x)

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

I don't know about 2024, but it is in 5.14. Here's the thread. I plan to play one at some point.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I'm a bit surprised to see the OP saying Lord of the Rings isn't as relevant. It's the one that everyone I've played with is familiar with. Is He-Man the new Conan? I know very little about either. I grew up reading science fiction from used book stores, so a lot of it was Golden Age work...

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger: House rule to fix Hunter's Mark

I don't know about 5.24, but in my games I've just allowed the Ranger to get +Wis modifier to damage against Favored Enemies. There are 13 creature types and 4 possible FE choices... but few campaigns or characters will pick Favored Enemy: Oozes or Celestials. I think in most campaigns players...
