Would this solve the "grind" issue?

Grind is possible in any system . I'm lucky with the groups I'm in. One group doesn't over analyze the tactics and still does just fine. The other group is very tactical but they are also pretty fast about it so it works without any grind in both cases. I still maintain that 4e is not...

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

TOEE is a pretty good adventure but its very tricky to run right and surely isn't to everyone's taste. There are a number of things to keep in mind to keep it from being a giant slog. 1. It is not needed for the part to find and go through every single encounter in the thing. Enough so they...

    Help me pick a leader

I'd say go with a cleric. Good Solid healing and buffing and not as likely to steal the thunder.

Would this solve the "grind" issue?

Now this part I agree with to a point. Keep on The Shadowfell was particularly badly written especially some of the encounters. However that is indicates a problem with the modules or more accurately a problem with the module design (or at least that one) not necessarily a problem with the...

    Minions!

I'd be really careful with this. Granted I'd have to go and look at the specifics of the options mentioned to build it. But, it seems to me that you may put so much of your resources (feats, power, items, etc...) that if something could neutralize it you may not have enough to defend yourself...

Would this solve the "grind" issue?

This right here. I agree with this

Would this solve the "grind" issue?

I never said it couldn't happen just that I haven't seen it. As for my group we've been playing together for years so when combat comes we are pretty good about it. We usually figure out what we are going to do while it's not our turn. One of the things I do that seems to help players...

    May Rules Update

Some of that healing reduction was probably needed. Just as a curiosity I built a first level character to see how much healing I could squeeze out of him. I never actually got to play him so I can't say I have play experience to back this up but It looked to me like he could keep the party...

Would this solve the "grind" issue?

I've never seen a 4th ed combat where it actually takes 2 minutes to determine and resolve an npc/pc action. I've seen combats where it takes that long because we are chatting, socializing, etc.. but my gaming groups also using gaming time as our socialization time because that the only time...

    Changing a power's damage type

I gotta agree with this one here. I've run into this once or twice as a DM and haven't seen any serious negative effects from allowing it. If nothing else it's an easy we to completely reflavor a class without a lot of effort. In fact in one game I had a character change their racial...

Would this solve the "grind" issue?

Personally to me 4e is a lot less grindy then 3.5. I've noticed with a standard size 5 person group. We get in more rounds of combat in a shorter time. I as a DM have a lore more fun and can challenge the players better than before. I think the big part of what helps me is the monster stat...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Truly an excellent game from the looks of it. I'm using some of the ideas PCat has put for as inspiration for trying to make my game better.

Solo Monsters and the Risk of Boredom

I ran the White Dragon encounter in Kobold hall just the other day. I had six players and used the stats out of the MM instead of in the adventure. I had 6 players instead of 5. It seems that the players seemed to enjoy it. It took us an hour or so real time to run it but we tend to run 4e...

    KOTS: The After Action Report

Nice review, some of your concerns mirror mine. Keeping track of marks for us seemed to be one of something of a annoyance. Combats did seem to take a while for us but we chalked it up to inexperience with the new system. I ran one group through the first combat and the ambush. The first...

Wizards of the Coast/Kenzer & Company License Agreements Expiring

Any idea how much of the stuff from the KODT comics are going to make it into the new Hackmaster? I always liked the sort of extreme rules lawyering that Brian pulled off (I'm not that type myself but it works very well as part of the comic) and I liked the idea of having a game that you could...

    "alchemical" silver

Just found it in the SRD (God I love the internet sometimes) Alchemical silver historically did refer to quicksilver or mercury but obviously that is not the contect that WOTC is using here.

    "alchemical" silver

IIRC from reading the DMG the other day. Alchemical silver is silver that has been alchemically bonded to a weapon. Hence it is actual real silver not mercury or some other material that emulates silver.

Mystic Theurge - how's it playing?

The SR was just an example made up by me off the top of my head while at work. There are other examples to be had that relate to caster level. The point I was trying to make is multiclassing can lead to a weaker character in some cases particularly in the case were all the classes involved are...

Mystic Theurge - how's it playing?

Okay, First of all Meeplo thanks for clearing that up. This leads me down ye olde merry train of thought road. I'm going to continue to use the example Meeplo gave me to illistrate the point. a Wizard 10/Cleric 10 while being 20th level as a character has a caster level of only 10 as a Wizard...

Characters never fall down -OR- Uncinematic combat

I've got to agree with Trilobyte on this one. If it seems appropriate that the player should be knocked down then have them be knocked down. That's part of why D&D has a DM, to make rulings on situations that aren't covered by the rules. There is no need to add to the system to cover this...
