    Cast at lower DC

I dunno...I think there's a good reason to keep saves the same whenever possible, namely so that you don't get bogged down in interminable rules discussions during games ("Should this really be sense motive? Because I should be able to notice the parts of the spell that are off using...

    Cast at lower DC

There's two likely cases in which this would arise: PCs vs. NPCs, and NPCs vs. PCs. (There's also PCs vs. PCs, but that's pretty unlikely, and you can extrapolate your own dang solution for that one :) ). The OP describes a PC wizard fooling NPCs. In this case, nobody gets their weird-meter...

    Cast at lower DC

Right, I get that. So the caster simply makes the illusion a "translucent outline," so it appears to all viewers as though they'd made their will save against it. But if they actually make their will save against it, they notice something about it that indicates it was designed that way.

    Cast at lower DC

Interesting idea. I don't know if there are particular rules, but I think I'd rule it this way: 1) Casting with a DC lower than the minimum possible to cast the spell would probably be impossible (e.g., for a 1st level spell, the lowest DC you could have would be 11; for second-level, it'd be...

Question about warlord's Commanding Presence ability

Ah--thanks, guys. I'm thinking I need to rewrite the character yet again, not having noticed the indiosyncratic stats for animal companions. Fun fact: only the horse starts at size large. Even tyrannosaurus rexes and rocs start at medium :D. So, trying to figure out how to do this. On...

Question about warlord's Commanding Presence ability

Adamant Entertainment has released a Warlord class for Pathfinder. Its Commanding Presence ability reads: If I'm reading this correctly, the warlord doesn't benefit from this ability himself. Is this correct? Also, the warlord gains a bonus feat at 2nd, 4th, etc. levels. "The warlord must...

    Synthetist is Shameful.

I'm trying to figure out if it's legal. Looking at eidolons, he'd start with a serpentine eidolon with str 12 and dex 16, right? +3 in each due to 9th level is str 15/dex 19. It gets one free ability increase, putting it at str 16. For 10 points, it's up to huge, str 31, dex 15. That's...

    Taking care of magic users...

Counterspelling is almost never worthwhile, because you're trading an almost certain opportunity to do something for an opportunity to maybe prevent an enemy from taking a turn. It's sort of the equivalent of a fighter going full defense against a melee attack: how often do you see that...

    Taking care of magic users...

My general rule is, if folks can do stuff, they're happy. With that in mind, some alternative solutions: 1) Give the baddies more HP, or better saves. That way, the sorcerer can still hurt them, but it'll be up to the fighter-types to finish them off. 2) Have them come from multiple directions...

We just had a PC die due to great roleplaying

Heh--I seem to recall reading about that one too, KidCthulhu. My own story: just before leaving for college, we ran a Werewolf game in which I played a teenage drug addict punk-kid. When he was abducted to become a werewolf, he turned out to be part of the Noble tribe (Silver Talon or some...

Sounds like the best of all possible worlds! I'd still suggest, as a takeaway lesson, that you examine every character sheet before it enters play. Heck, I introduced my brother to D&D some 30 years ago, and I've stood up to Hypersmurf in some meta-rules debates ;), and my brother STILL checks...

Need some advice for a lvl5 tank build.

Wow, antagonize is awesome. On the minus side, you give up all attacks for the round. On the plus side, this (esp. plus a reach weapon) is a total wizard-killer feat: if you have a decent intimidate score, say, 9 (5 ranks + 3 trained + 1 cha), you're making a DC 15 check vs. most equal-level...

Need some advice for a lvl5 tank build.

Well, as I said, the quintessential tank has some way to gain aggro (pardon the expression). Pathfinder doesn't have very good aggro-gaining mechanics, AFAIK, so intelligent enemies will totally ignore the small-damage, hard-to-hit turtle in favor of hitting the glass cannon instead. I...

Need some advice for a lvl5 tank build.

A tank has two roles: 1) Be hard to kill; and 2) Attract attacks like honey attracts flies. The armor master fighter gets the second part down, but the first part might be difficult. If an enemy is facing a low-damage-output half-orc that's almost impossible to hit, and a high-damage-output...

You know that expression, "you make your own luck"? I think that might apply in this case :). There's no such thing as luck in dice rolls, of course: instead, there's: 1) Coincidence; 2) Confirmation bias; and 3) Cheating. Normally when I think of someone as a good roller, I chalk it up to 1...

Thanks for finding that spell, Mad Hamish! From the description, even if you allow the spell (which I think I'd allow, honestly, if the player got prior approval for it), it nowhere states that it can rip armor off. It's attached at several points very firmly; instead, it ought to pull the...

He just cast a second-level spell that ripped the metal armor off an enemy--it sounds to me like he already was casting a high-magic area :). Perhaps it has unpleasant consequences--maybe for the next little while whenever he casts a spell, he has a lingering magnetic affect that makes him...

    Need some DM help.

I did some googling for Fire Dwarf, and here's the best I can find: I'd let him switch to this, if you can figure out what hardy (+2 on saves vs. poison/disease, maybe), hatred: cold & water (+1 on attacks/damage vs. cold/water creatures, maybe), and slow & steady (movement not reduced by heavy...

Also, can you check the Pathfinder SRD to see if any of his spells or equipment or powers are listed here? I'm really curious, and am almost certain he's misinterpreting things (e.g., not noticing that the magnetic power affects unattended objects, or something).
