    Mask of the Betrayer

Well, I've waded through mooks. But maybe I did something different than you... . I think it's mildly epic so far, which is really the best kind of epic. But I'm not that far into it yet, so I can't say that it doesn't become crazier as time goes on. It's different than the Throne of Bhaal...

    D&D 4E Initiative in 4E

Maybe they should just make everyone move at the same time. The DM would just call out for each round: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. And everyone either moves 5 feet, takes an attack, or does nothing. It'd make everyone pay attention, and combat would go pretty darn fast with everyone moving...

Why do I suck at CivIV?

As fun as religions are, I only really pick them because I like that aspect of the game. I find that even though they can rake in quite a bit of gold (and now other bonuses with the expansion packs), they tend not to be worth the massive diplo penalties unless I go wonder crazy. But then...

Why do I suck at CivIV?

Well, civfanatics.com and apolyton.net are probably your best places to look for guides. It might help you to read a few walkthroughs as well. What level do you play at? I usually play and sometimes win on Prince, so if that's the level of play you're looking at, I can probably help some...

    Mask of the Betrayer

Actually, Kaji, the Red Wizard's homonculus familiar works as a rogue. He can open locks and disable traps just fine... Of course I broke my way through a lot of them before I figured that out... I like the little guy. My wife has now stolen the CD from me to play a Favored Soul (I have to...

    Mask of the Betrayer

I just got Mask of the Betrayer installed on my computer. First impressions are pretty positive with it. At the very least, the engine no longer feels like a dog on my computer. FPS went from 15 fps to about 45 fps. So, of course I had to go turn all the graphics up again. :-) Enchanting...

I think I've figured out power sources...

Actually, the more I think about it, the more interesting this gets. Now, instead of worrying about "caster level", you worry about Base Arcane or Divine Bonus. Paladins have a slower progression of their base Divine Bonus. Spellswords (or whatever their fighter/mage class is) get slower...

I think I've figured out power sources...

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. I'm not just talking about types of BAB progression. There must be multiple *different* bonuses to account for the different means of attack.

I think I've figured out power sources...

The 4e previews keep mentioning power sources... martial, arcane, divine. And it never really occurred to me until now exactly what they were talking about. We know that fighters, mages, and clerics all roll a d20 when they attack or cast spells. In 3.5e, when you swing your sword, you add...

    D&D 4E 4E Devils vs. Demons article

I think alignment remains. Chaos is that which existed at the beginning. Before law and before the gods. Destructive, uncontrolled elemental forces. And thus, taking the elemental planes and shoving them down into the more chaotic-aligned areas is really a brilliant idea. It's well-aligned...

    Double Weapons: Scrap or keep?

Other than quarterstaffs and a spiked chain (hey, I had a min-maxer), no one I know has ever used a double weapon in my games. The benefits of using them are not that great, and they just add to the list of difficult weapons you'll never find pre-enchanted. So I say, get rid of double weapons...

    Critical Hit with Fireball!

I like the change, and actually it's a fairly intuitive one. Think about it. We now know what a +6 wand does. ALL spells that were formerly save spells, are now roll-to-attack. But there's 3 types of defenses, SWSE-style. I wonder what a critical charm does... :-)

D&D 4E AC exists in 4e... but do Reflex Saves?

I'm pretty excited about AC going away, actually. I could do things like: ---------------------------------------------------- DM: "You were bitten by the werewolf." Player: "Oh CRAP! Should I roll a forti..." DM: "No, that's alright. I've already done it for you." Player: "..."...

Familiars and Animal Companions. Should they stay?

Keep familiars and animal companions. Make them non-combat creatures (always flee or hide in the face of combat). And if they die, make them resummonable without penalty 1/day.

    Money is power, literally.

I think I see where you're going, but I think your terminology is a bit off. It's not your wealth that determines your power then... Its the value of what you have. Value not necessarily being monetary value (but of course money has a very easily quanitfiable value). So, really kidnapping...

D&D 4E Chuck Norris to be in the 4e Core Pantheon

A lot of gods are dying with the arrival of 4e. You might think that's a bad thing. Actually, it's a Chucktastrophe.

D&D 4E Do you think WotC rebooting Forgotten Realms for 4e would be a good idea?

In other news, the subprime deity industry suffered another setback today as the Spellplague killed off two more minor dieties. People are blaming the deity rating agencies, and various portfolio brokers who in recent years had taken to chopping up portfolios into smaller and smaller portions...

    Reoccuring dream elements?

When I was a little kid, I had crazy nightmare problems. So, I learned lucid dreaming. Pretty fun to have complete control over my dreams. Gave it up though because... omnipotence and omniscience get boring. Recurring elements: - Flying. Always. I can almost always fly. Acrobatic, loops...

    D&D 4E 4e Magic: The De-Science-ing?

Not necessarily true. Only true if magic follows set laws like physics. For example, if magic itself were sentient, then no laws might apply. Casting magic might be more like taming a creature than computing y = ax + b. Or, magic might be non-sentient but chaotic or nearly chaotic. Wielding...
