The Ogre Killed the Dwarf in 3 Rounds

Hopefully not shooting radiant lance at the same time... 'cause that would just be painful.

D&D 5E (2014) Do We Need Another "Damage On A Miss" Poll?

if this poll misses the point, does it still cause damage?

    Welcome to our new moderators!

... are the EuroMods now outnumbering the AmericanMods? This cannot be!!! ;-) But more seriously, welcome new moderators and ModBot5000. All us underlings shall do our best to make your job as difficult as possible. :)

D&D 5E (2014) The cover of the 5E PHB: What I'd like to see

I like this idea and I would extend it further that future supplements show those same adventurers in a different scene/setup relevant to the topic of the book. Example: a supplement that has tactical module rules has those 4 PCs in combat with the door behind then (as in, they just came...

    A Motive for this Villain?

several of the thoughts that came to my mind have already been said (and said much better than i could say it).... but here are my thoughts anyway. * revenge... maybe similar to what you were tinkering with as an idea, but the idea of his crew abandoning him seems very off to illicit that sort...

    Need some encounters for plains/wilderness

*burrowing creatures: ie bulletes? purple worms? *flying creature: i.e. come across a flying creature (chimera? dragon?) that is busy ripping apart a caravan for some food in one of the wagons with the requisite travelers who are part of the caravan who are injured near the wagon and need to be...

Wizard PC dies, returns as Invoker

death by mutant goblin horde ... (he done got skewered) i mean, he survived the oatmeal-to-the-face assault by a blasphemer who would not change his ways back at the tavern, but then he just wasn't as resilient against pointed sticks....

    Variable HP for monsters

while i agree in theory (i like variety such that every creature/encounter is not 100% predictable), i wouldn't actually do this in practice in my own game - specifically because it adds more prep work for the DM (rolling hp for everyone). If it's one or two enemies no big deal. but when you get...

    Magic items in Playtest

    That just sounds dirty.

    Taking a power twice.

Based on my personal experiences, it should work in general. Also makes somethings simpler for that player in that he doesn't have to track as many different things But keep an eye out for a couple specific things like .... a) it reduces variety in combat, thus, some players might find that...

    Magic items in Playtest

slight tangent ..... do the rules (yes, i realize it's an incomplete playtest document) have a method for magic item identification? I haven't been able to find one... historicaly, one way was that if you studied it for 5 minutes of downtime, you could figure out what it is and its properties...

Bug? XP comments link goes elsewhere

Hey now. don't get all paranoid and assume it's a bug, feature, or lemon juice. It is exactly what it appears to be -- a plot to make you go crazy. nothing more, nothing less. :D or more seriously, as renau1g already pointed out, since xp was temporarily disabled again, the notice has no...

Wizard PC dies, returns as Invoker

having played an invoker (though not as long as i would like to have before he died) i wholeheartedly enjoy seeing an invoker being 'born' in the world. sounds like a fun scenario. :)

Why Do Clerics Get to Spontaneously Cast Their Prepared Spells, But Not Wizards?

because ..... while i don't have 'designer insider information as to the specific thought process, i can say (based on my experiences in playing as a cleric in almost every single edition of d&d) that there are probably a couple reasons... the most prominent ones being 1) they wanted to stick...

    Magic items in Playtest

but to answer your question a) I like that they aren't all just +X to roll Y b) i like that this playtest has a variety to show different applications of where they expect to go with things c) do i like each specific magic item...? well... on some i'm just 'meh' on others they seem cool. i...

    Magic items in Playtest

    Cleric Comparisons: Pelor vs. Moradin

I state upfront that I am biased in that i've always preferred and liked the 'laser' type cleric over the armored-hammer type. Having said that, i think seeing both clerics was awesome in that we got to see very tangible differences in how either one played by simple choice differences for...

D&D 5E (2014) Who is planning on changing their existing games over to 5e?

it's too early for me to tell (in terms of we don't have a finished product yet) and since it will be a long long long time before i even have to make that decision, i haven't even begun to consider it.

One word that will fix what's wrong with DNDN

I agree with this but want to look at it from the opposite side -- modularity is there, but what is the base mechanic core that will stick with the system? * scaling hit points and damage but other stuff is flatter math * ability scores being the baseline for basically everything * the given DC...

They have a cave troll (ogre)... [Playtest Report]

Sounds like you all had fun. just two very minor comments in case it helps you moving forward... in the find and remove traps, -finding- the traps is listed as wisdom (i.e. like perception) but -removing- the traps doesn't explicitly call it out, so (like any other skill) the DM can decide...
