Carefully Introducing encounter based spell management into D&D 3.x

For Rejuvenating Spell I propose to change the chain of feats effects : Rejuvenating Spell : a 0th level spell at will Magic Rejuvenation : a 1st level spell at will Magic Rejuvenation, Improved : a 2nd level spell at will Magic Rejuvenation, Epic : a 3rd level spell at will IMO, a 3rd level...

    D&D 4E Arcane Spell Failure in 4E

I hope the % roll is changed. I deeply dislike percentile rolls in d20, I would vote for a Concentration check where DC is function of armor worn, or something, but not a percentile roll.

D&D 4E David Noonan on 4E "Cloudwatching" (Added Dave's newest comment from his blog)

Unless 3.5e is objectively better than 4e, then they should have no problem. So if 4e indeed sucks, as they think it will, they will be able to find players easily, as many 3.5e players won't like to change. No big loss then... If they are sure 4e is worse, they shouldn't be worried ;)

D&D 4E David Noonan on 4E "Cloudwatching" (Added Dave's newest comment from his blog)

Yeah, risking to fracture an already small fanbase, and even worse, risking to fracture a wonderful community like EN World :( Hopefully spirits will calm soon... or at worse some months after May 2008

D&D 4E David Noonan on 4E "Cloudwatching" (Added Dave's newest comment from his blog)

Rabid and abusive behavior is not only from 4e fans. For example, yesterday I've been said to be smocking crack by a 3e supporter only because I dared to suggest that changes wouldn't be too dramatic... And if you think here we have rabid pro 3/4/any edition fans, you should go to Wizards boards.

Side Effect: No more running away?

In fact, I like that they make difficult running away from a monster faster than the slowlest party member. If the monster is fast, running away shouldn't be an option. Retreating around corners to get a safe retreat is ( YMHO ) metagaming, so I'm glad it won't work. Trying to escape, retreat...

    I might wait 3 years for v.4.5

There will be a 5e, in a few (or not so few) years. It will be natural, video-games have versions, miniature games have versions, movies have remakes... Look at Warhammer games, new edition every few years and people don't feel cheated (well, they do feel cheated, but they buy and play it anyways).

    I might wait 3 years for v.4.5

I say it with a very straight face, 3.5 was not a new edition. All changes were minor, core books were 80-90% identical, you could take a PC from 3e games and use it in 3.5e without almost any change. Invoke Chuck Norris if you want, it doesn't change the fact that a goose isn't a duck even...

    I might wait 3 years for v.4.5

From 3e to 3.5e all changes where minor, changes that, while changing deeply some aspect of gameplay, where small points of the rules. From 2e to 3e or from 3/3.5e to 4e there are deep changes, the whole game is different. That's why 3e and 4e are new editions, and 3.5e was a revision. To take...

    I might wait 3 years for v.4.5

    3.5 wasn't a new edition, as 2e Skills and Powers wasn't it.

    Rules Changes Significant?

O.k., I will reformat my phrase to make it clearer. IMO the changes from 3e to 4e will be as significant/dramatic/whatever as from 2e to 3e. There are new elements in both changes, both in crunch than in fluff, formulaic conversions won't work as they didn't work before, power level will change...

    Rules Changes Significant?

So, if I understand right, changing from 2e to 3e was indeed dramatic for certain PC (multiclasses, dual-classes), and the power level changed dramatically too. And on top of that, a class appeared from nothing (as sorcerers), other reappeared in core book (as monk), classes reserved to human...

    Rules Changes Significant?

You're beginning well... Why, if I can ask? I don't know why you think it won't be D&D anymore, and what are those dramatic changes you foresee. Many of the changes (at will powers, combat maneuvers) are already in official supplements (like warlock and maneuvers in Bo9S), and in many...

    Castle Smoulderthorn, Part 3

They were "minion vampire", I guess that a kind of minor vampire, or newly created ones. A bit as in Buffy, where normal vampires are no match for the Slayer, or even for the experienced scoobies in last seasons, but old vampires are as powerful (or even more) as the Slayer...

Warforged: Like them or loathe them?

What about warforged in MM1 ? Developers have say that many "monsters" in MM1 will be decribed both as monster and as race (for example gnomes). So Warforged could be there too. People who don't like them wouldn't feel compelled to use them, people who like them could use them since the...
