Skills That Should be Handy for an Adventurer...But Aren't in Actual Play.

The only one I voted for is Decipher Script. Its best for the party if they invest in a few scrolls of comprehend languages and have you put the points into something more useful. A lot of the social skills are campaign dependent, but if you get an opportunity to use them then they can be handy...

    Favorite combat tactics? (2nd attempt)

Zombies have an Intelligence of 0 - changing tactics to account for environmental conditions is beyond them.

What's the conventional wisdom on CV's version of Expert Tactician?

That's a good idea - especially since Dragon Disciple is already starting to give me extra casts per day. During those 9 levels I'd have plenty of extra casts per day so I probably would have been Enlarging some of the party members anytime we had a chance to prep for a battle.

What's the conventional wisdom on CV's version of Expert Tactician?

I don't think it was overpowered. Of course, that's based on how I remember being able to use it. Some of the ways people were interpreting it, including even the sage in the FAQ seemed wrong to me in that the feat would trigger more often ... What if they canned it not over power balance...

What's the conventional wisdom on CV's version of Expert Tactician?

Dang! You're right of course; spell works on humanoids and my type will be dragon :( Good catch and thank you. Well, that last level has too many goodies to pass up and it would feel a bit lame to stop on that path for the sake casting that spell ... that's too much power-meta-gaming even for...

What's the conventional wisdom on CV's version of Expert Tactician?

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. There always seemed to be a lot confusion with the old feat as to how and when to it could be used ... my gut feeling is that they wanted to bury that mechanic.

What's the conventional wisdom on CV's version of Expert Tactician?

Hmmm, I think (and hope) I'll get more mileage out of trip than you seemed to get. Part of the problem seems to be inherent in running a TWF build - as you say you had to throw feats into that and might have had to sacrifice some Str or Con to boost your Dex. I DO have Power Attack and two...

    Whirlwind Attack and Swarms

Ah, but I can't Baleful Polymorph a swarm even though the spell targets "1 creature." There are some exceptions slash special cases for swarms with regards to treating them as a single creature; I think Whirlwind attack is something that should be special cased as well. Imagine if you will two...

    Whirlwind Attack and Swarms

Yeah, you'd think that rats and bats would be equivalent ...

    Whirlwind Attack and Swarms

I agree with this as being the RAW interpretation. I don't agree with this statement. The "immune to weapon damage" aspect (for most swarms) seems to be about negating physical attacks period, combat feats therefore getting rendered useless seems to be just a byproduct ... Personally, I'd let...

+2 to hit AND damage. And your allies get the bonus as well.

What's the conventional wisdom on CV's version of Expert Tactician?

I'm the party's tank and I'm focused on using Tripping and reach weapons for battlefield control. Its a core campaign, feats and PRC's from the Complete books have to be vetted by the DM and group to be used. I'm looking at Expert Tactician (the Complete Adventurer version) for my next feat...

    Death to all Cat People!!

Jürgen beat me to the punch with that pic, but here's another good one from the same artist. She's saying, "This isn't kawaii... this isn't kawaii AT ALL!" You can buy the poster of this here.

Does being pinned give you the -5 Dex score?

The fact that it doesn't take much muscle power to hold a croc's jaws shut does nothing to change the fact that it probably takes some training/technique/experience (not to mention brass ones) to be able to approach a croc, grap that mouth and counter anything the croc does to get free (besides...

    Set to Receive Charge

Running towards pointy sticks should be dangerous. There were some weapon comparisons above, but people seemed to miss the best case study: Heavy Flail vs. Halberd. Both are Martial 2-handers doing 1d10 with equivalent threat/crit that be used to make trip attacks. The Heavy Flail gets a +2...

    Dire Mace?

One or more people at WotC deserve wet willies over this - as an exotic weapon it really should have a Crit of x3. Compare a Heavy Mace to a Flail. One is a simple weapon and the other is a martial and yet both do 1d8 x2 damage. But the Flail is compensated for its martialness by being...

Ideas for Rogue in Heavy Armor

I thought I'd do something a little different and try to build a rogue character that uses heavy armor in order to increase survivability in toe to toe combat while flanking. Seems crazy, I know, but I thought I'd try my hand at it to see if it can be made to work or not. A couple of key...

How many 3.5e D&D Wotc products do you own?

13 - that's actually more than I thought I had. After getting the complete series, I decided I didn't need any more "here's a bunch of Races, PRC's, feats, spells and rules to destablize your game!" books. I feel for the RPGA, trying to accomodate such a huge matrix of options. Be interesting...

How often does the trip mechanic come up in your game?

I don't recall ever seeing a Trip attempt in 3.0. I think everyone was put off by the chance of a counter trip - why take the risk? I'm now playing a Trip based character in 3.5, so I bust it out whenever I can. In our last session we got in a tussle with 3 thieves; I had all three were flat...

Question on Pro Evil and Improved Trip

Just to be clear, if you fail, they may attempt to trip you back. I think your statement could be interpreted as if you fail, you are now considered to be tripped. If its 50% they trip, 50% I trip I won't try it. But if its 50% they trip, 25% I trip, 25% nothing changes, then its a whole...
