Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

If you consider the content of the post I was replying to, that statement was rather innocent.

I didn't know those cute little critters triggered you.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

uh yeah, cause "reasons" This response fails to address all the situations I mentioned. For example, Spells that dominate the mind can change a targets mental state instantly, and yet they don't remove a mark. And if we take your physical explanation seriously, what happens when a...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

Completely incorrect. My opinion is that there should be options for everyone. What I don't agree with is how these options are being prescribed. In this case, I'd rather see a Knight sub class that is modular and not exclusive to a particular style of play without modification. With...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's Read: Volo's Monsters

oh I need to say this. Thanks for the Rot Grub Swarm WotC! I've already seen a few triggered gamers upset about its return. :)

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

These are explanations of the sort that we heard before by 4e apologists. All of these explanations are dependent on the targets state of mind being manipulated and/or an undefined physical obstruction. If marking is a form of mind warping, the target is being modified with complete disregard...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

oh yeah... remove the entire subclass..... such a great option. Why not be a nice and inclusive publisher and create subclass with optional 4e styled rules? Of course, my group is happy being in the optional ghetto provided that ghetto is provided... otherwise, don't tempt me to take your...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

Marking is replacing some other power the Knight should have received. I still can't figure out what Marking has to do with the concept of the Knight, but that's another issue.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

Christmas dinner at your house is optional, especially when the turkey has been replaced with a giant frog. When that happens, it's time to return to tradition. At my place, Turkey and OSR are tradition. I swear that odd dish of 5e last year was just a foray into madness.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

Notice here that the Grinch isn't just taking the presents away from the little girl, he's replacing them with s**t that will make her cry on Christmas day. Sadly, there is no path to redemption in this story. The green monster is content to tell the teary eyed little girl that Christmas is...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

IMO, that's complete BS. I don't buy it at all. There is no rational in-game explanation. Consider how marking ignores language barriers, sound limitations, and the targets psychology. And if the method of causing the penalty to hit is physical, it's even more ridiculous when range factors...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

There certainly are styles of play shared by people. Which is why we should see far more optional rules than what we currently have. With that said, I think it's very easy for designers to identify gamey dissonant mechanics and make them optional.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

Exactly, the designers have jumped the shark with this edition too. This is exactly what happened in 4e with the Vampire Vampire Vampire (race, class, theme). LMAO! so sad. IMO, this is what happens when you don't fire your old design team who failed you.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

Well, perhaps my sarcasm was lost. IMO these sub classes are strictly based on a few mechanics and lack much to be desired in terms of flavour.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Fighter: Samurai, Sharpshooter, Arcane Archer & Knight

It means they have a bunch of cool "powerz' they want to add the game and pick the first class name that pops in their head. Knight and a samurai are defined by their game mechanics alone. Even if it conflicts with existing preconceptions and 5e concepts (like backgrounds) they go with it...

For some people it makes no sense. It caters to a style of play that isn't shared by everyone.

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's Read: Volo's Monsters

With Volo's I'm rather disappointed with the Xvart. The flavour text ignores the original fiend folio entry and their inclusion in subsequent published adventures. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for lore, I'd just rather conserve existing lore and build upon it. In the past the Xvart could...

D&D 5E (2014) Your Biggest Gaming Pet Peeve

Without question it's the kind of player authoring (metagaming) that IMO is best left in the hands of the DM. Magic shops and players who think it's their right to buy certain items for the purpose of character "buildz" is another.

I'm getting rather annoyed with how JC has been sneaking in all the vilified 4e rules lately. Did that marking really need to return? WTF!
