    D&D 5E (2014) Drizzt as a LG 8th Level Champion

The Accursed Tower stats Drizzt as a 16th level ranger.

If it's early career he shouldn't have Cattie-brie's bow.

    D&D 5E (2014) Drizzt as a LG 8th Level Champion

I recall reading that RAS looked in the 1e UA manual and saw that drow could be rangers. After reading all the novels I think it makes sense for Drizzt to first be a fighter, but once he escapes menzo he basically becomes a savage (perhaps a low level ranger) of the underdark. Of course...

I'm not convinced he is LG and I really thought he would be a ranger.

WotC Being Sued By Magic: the Gathering Judges

Well look at the video game industry. I know that many software developers stay clear of game programming out of fear their enthusiasm will be exploited and result in long hours at a diminished salary. Even play testers spend a huge amount of time, usually even more than the designers...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gnomes aren't Fey?

Gnomes are not fey creatures. IMO, it was one of those 4e lore changes that just didn't need to happen. If you don't like them being cousins of dwarves why the heck would you make them cousins of elves? Elves are already infested with sub races, half-elves, etc..

WotC Being Sued By Magic: the Gathering Judges

Yes, the gaming industry is notorious for that. Play testers and game developers are exploited in a similar fashion, but at least they are payed a low wage most of the time.

We're All Gamers Together: Why Harassment Has To Stop

The unspoken truth is that D&D is a game that can, like poker night, be played by a rabble of men, for which the only membership requirement is the freedom of vulgarity. A safe space like a men's only pub might be a better venue for such games

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

2e allows for all of that, even my house rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Finding 5th edition too "safe".

Invisible Imp in 2e had a SoD poison stinger. I have a wonderful low level Dungeon Magazine adventure that often claims the life of a PC called the Wizard's Fate. There is no way in heck he's going to announce himself at the first encounter, of course his ring of spell storing helps him in...

Failure to gather info could also be the players fault. The DM is not required to mitigate PC idiots.

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Why does it need to be? I think that if you want to soldier on, then you certainly don't need a power like Second Wind to accomplish that. That power alone suggests that other character classes and/or even monsters can't do such a thing. A wizard can certainly be described as "soldiering...

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

For my style of play, there are two reasons for this. 1. Soldiering on means you do it without healing. 2. The only way to recover hit points is via a long rest (weeks) or magic. Also, Soldiering on should be risky. Exactly the point. Well that's not part of 2e. But what page is this...

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Yeah, that's a good example. What you didn't do in this case is summon your strength (second wind) and ignore the injury from that point forward.

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Yes, without those rules a Called Shot could be made to cause a bleeding wound or some other injury.

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Why not? What do remaining HPs have to do with it? No, there is a difference between soldiering on and regaining hit points. If you want to soldier on then do it without those hit points. You put yourself at risk for the next encounter if you don't heal up. Second wind heals you up without...

D&D 5E (2014) what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Good question. Here is the argument from the 2e PHB that speaks to your falling damage issue. Being Mauled 3 times is 3 separate descriptions of damage. I don't see any reason why they need to be described differently based on the number of current hit points. I'd most likely...
