If points 1 and 2 are important issues you have with 5e than it seems like you would want less decisions points than options (as Charlaquin defines them).

Variant human and half-elf are two of the strongest races. This isn't a power gamer thing.

In comparison, I don't think I've ever ran a group that didn't have at least one human or half-elf in it.

As I understand it death was more common in the first campaign. I believe every party member died at some point. The death requiring the apology occured in the 2nd campaign, at early levels, so you can see how the casual CR fan was a bit more shocked when they didn't have raise dead ready.

Did not take long for this to go from "odd aspects of the rules that bug you" to just "things about the rules you don't like". The entire mess with melee attacks vs melee weapon attacks and such comes to mind, personally.

I went for Dark Sun, and then Greyhawk and Blackmoor as an either. If I wasn't hedging like that I'd throw in an expanded Ravenloft.

I would not describe the negative reaction to 4e Dark Sun as "big" in any context besides "big among a few hardcore fans on some small forums." Edit: Let me add that, as snarky as this comes across, I don't want to belittle those hardcore fans. 4e Dark Sun does make some big fundamental changes...

You have the right to take issue with these treatments of elements of your heritage if you feel they are problematic. But the fact that you don't see an issue, or that you do and choose not to take action about it, does not mean others can't do so in their own circumstances.

Kamigawa is seen as a niche failure set by wizards. Tarkir is not.
