D&D General Explaining D&D classes using the Marvel Cinematic Universe

I see experimentation with a magical artifact leading to the development of innate powers as more of the sorcerer's arena, but I can see the warlock argument.

D&D General Explaining D&D classes using the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Mads Mikkelsen's character in Doctor Strange is the closest I can think of to a warlock (muticlass wizard). Scarlet Witch is a sorcerer.

D&D 5E (2014) Should WotC Keep the Love Domain as is?

Yes, we as a species put love on a special pedestal. We are considerably more upset when our feelings dealing with love are manipulated, betrayed, or what have you than if someone just does something that anger us generically. By that I mean something that angers you for a non-passionate...

D&D 5E (2014) Should WotC Keep the Love Domain as is?

Because of the association with love, specifically how we in the modern world like to think of as being it's more positive form.

D&D 5E (2014) Should WotC Keep the Love Domain as is?

Seduce is definitely a word with negative connotations.

D&D 5E (2014) Should WotC Keep the Love Domain as is?

That is the only "no" option on the poll. And the strawman more has to do with the characterization of these people as angry, irrational people trying to remove all charm spells from the game. Very clearly many of them found the implications unfortunate because of the ties to a character...

    D&D 5E (2014) Cleric Love Domain Adjustments

That would be very revolutionary for 5e, considering nothing else in the system interacts with character traits like that.

Unearthed Arcana The Unearthed Arcana Is Back With Cleric's Unity Domain!

People are always asking for an unarmed fighter build, but they never stop to think about the unarmed bard.

Unearthed Arcana The Unearthed Arcana Is Back With Cleric's Unity Domain!

I feel like the lofty lore of the Creation Bard doesn't match the crunch. Groups gather to stop the dangerous usage of this power of creation such as....making the furniture slam dance, or temporarily conjuring a breastplate. Mechanically, the partner is the big hook, and I don't think that's...

D&D 5E (2014) Should WotC Keep the Love Domain as is?

That origin for her is from the Illiad.

Yeah. They wanted a love domain based off modern, positive associations of love instead of mythological figures. I think that's fair enough. I also think it's fair if someone wanted a domain more closely associated with the myths of Aphrodite, but it's hard to make both of those groups happy...

They also changed the domain spells and the channel divinity option, which were what people were complaining about in the first place.

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

WoTC likes to toot their own horn on their efforts to make dnd more inclusive. If they don't want feedback on subjects relating to such, then they really shot themselves in the foot at some point. But they've indicated in the past they take in feedback beyond just the mechanics.

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

I don't think censorship is the topic here. This wasn't an officially released product that people demanded be withdrawn. This was a playtest document, which if it was officially released would have included a request for feedback. The feedback being offered was, while certainly dramatic, boils...

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

Officially, they took it down because it was never supposed to have been put up this week. That may just be the PR excuse, of course. Think of books like 1984. A common idea in fiction is that a worse punishment than death you can inflict on someone is the subversion of their own will.

This is a playtest, that's kind of the opposite of what you're supposed to do.

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

4e didn't have domains (well, essentials did, but I wouldn't think of them in the same way as 5e.) And it had pretty conspicuous lack in traditional enchantment abilities. Combat ones tended to inflict the dazed (one action a turn) or dominate (attack your friends) conditions. Utility powers...

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

The fluff in the leaked document is very positive and shall we say "good-aligned". But even if it was more of a both sides kind of deal I think the name "Love" will always be a deal breaker, as noted by others in the thread.

Unearthed Arcana WotC Removes Latest Unearthed Arcana

I can sympathize with WoTC on this one. Aphrodite has already been mentioned, and between her and Cupid the popular image of deities of love involve forcing that love onto others. And if you were to ask me what spells go with the love domain, my first thought would be enchantment as well...

    D&D 5E (2014) What Level was your 1st Character Death in 5e?

As a DM: TPK in the first encounter I ran for 5e, but that was due to not reading any of the DMG and using 4e encounter logic. Turns out 1st level players aren't meant to fight sahuagin. As a player: Goliath Barbarian, Death House, the climatic encounter with the shambling mound. Everyone...
