Wow, love the art style in the pics above. What did you put in the prompt to get that cool watercolor look?

The First Righteous Vow Mixes Sandbox And Storyline

At first, I misread that title as "The Lich King of AI" and thought we were going to have The Seven or Eight Fingers of Vecna.

    D&D 5E (2014) Arcane Recovery strategy

I'm a simple man. I'm going for the 4th level slot. Wall of Fire? Banishment? Summon Greater Demon? Yeah, that's the stuff. Screw Magic Missile: I ain't bringing a fork to a gunfight.

    D&D 4E Rambling thoughts about D&D 4th Edition

Not exactly, but multi-target damage is definitely in the control sphere. A wizard will never compete with a barbarian for damage against a single boss, but against a swarm of minions, the wizard is much more valuable, at least for the first round or two. This is in keeping with other editions...

GMing Mistakes You’ve Made in the Past

I had a cool encounter where monsters on a roof pelted the party. There were ways to get up on the roof, but it was hard. One of my players had just gotten a new ability upon levelling up that I didn't know about, which let him more or less fly up to the roof. (This was D&D 4e, where such...

D&D 5E (2014) Which was the most recent Wizards adventure you consider a classic?

Nothing since 1982? Off the top of my head, you're cutting out Ravenloft, The Sunless Citadel, and Red Hand of Doom. Those all came after my impressionable youth and therefore don't have the place in my heart that Tomb of Horrors does, but they're classics nonetheless. Ravenloft in particular is...

These programs clearly can't handle female dwarves, and really can't handle non-white female dwarves.

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

Socializing, hammer, industrious, goods, camaraderie. I can actually sort of understand how the A.I. got "communism" out of that. Kind of almost maybe. Like if you can imagine the sensibility of a robot, but crossed with a student barely paying attention in Poli Sci, you get something that...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

Possibly a bit off topic, but I really think Goodman Games needs to release a new version of Dungeon Crawl Classics, even if they don't think much needs to be changed. When I mention that I like DCC, people say, "Oh, that's still around?". A fresh coat of paint might do a world of good.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

This is talk radio levels of absolutism. ANY compatibility? COMPLETELY worthless? Come on. Go to Startplaying right now and you'll see literally hundreds of 2014 adventures being run under 2024 rules. I myself am splicing monsters from the new Monster Manual into my 2014-rules campaign that...

RPG Evolution: The New Miniature Era

I use meeples for my monsters. Not only does it save a ton of money and room, but I just straight up like it better. It's easy for me and my players to differentiate the PCs from the monsters and the different bold colors help me keep track of everything. I use minis for my PCs, though.

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

Personally, I would not allow this as a DM since it's four different commands which are unrelated. It's touchy, because the two examples given in the 2024 version of the spell both have multiple parts, just like your example. But they're at least related parts, and thus arguably a single course...

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

But the word "reasonable" is what makes the spell fun! It was all about convincing the target to do whatever absurd thing you're asking. Saying "hand me your weapon!" is boring. So much better if you have to come up with "Wow, that's the coolest sword I've ever seen. Could I hold it for a...

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Announces April 22 Release For 2024 System Reference Documents

ORCUS is incredibly impressive, but it isn't a retroclone in the same sense that OSRIC is, because it had to rename and re-do everything. Not only is "Tide of Iron" not in the game, there isn't a class called "Fighter". Legally, you can't do something like Tales of the Valiant or Advanced 5e...
