Yeah, I'm not excluding that reading at all, and I think it has merit. All I'm saying is that the baying internet hounds are a thing that a lot of reaosnable (read non-internety) people aren't going to grok fully.

I'm currently playing in a game that starts at 11:30 my time and goes to like 3 in the morning (on weekdays no less). An artifact of my moving many time zones. You take the hit if the game is good enough.

I have a lot of empathy for tone deaf in these situations. The reality of public 'outcry' is so far removed from normal I don't think people can be taken too much to task for underestimating the fallout.

I don't find grimdark to be a particularly useful term, aside from as a benchmark to see how similar to GWs stuff something is. If we're talking about grittiness and horror, then I'd probably use those two terms as they are separate dials for campaign feel IMO. Despite my protestations, people...

When I was in middle school my best friend's uncle knew the RAFM guys. We would occasionally get to visit the warehouse and buy miniatures by weight. Wow, that takes me back. Anyway, its a shame they're closing.

I'm mining Baltic history and folklore quite a bit in spots for sure. A lot of the older GW stuff isn't copywriteable anyway, that's why they changed the names of all their beasties to nonsense like Orruk or whatever.

I'm going to replace some of the details in that table as I develop the expanded Orc bestiary and vocabulary. Squigs will need to go, and maybe choppas, but none of them are key elements, so no problem. I'm not worried about the Gods unless I use the names or published details about them, which...

Yeah, me too, but for me monster design and encounter design are starting to be the same thing. Or at least more the same thing than I would have guessed they would end up being.

I just released a Shadowdark setting book based (loosely) on Warhammer's Old World. I did a bunch of stuff for that bestiary and could probably contribute some inspiration. I did two page spreads by race and took some inspiration from the Monster Overhaul.
