    D&D 5E (2014) scroll prices

Potion of Healing is actually listed under adventure gear in the equipment chapter of the new PHB. 50 GP for 1. Until otherwise changed by the DMG I've been using 3.5E prices, 25 GP for a level 1 scroll.

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

Stat array has 0 risk. By comparison everything is much riskier than point buy. Even with 35 point buy, the restriction of "no 16s" means someone will want to roll. The gambling addicts among us who think the risk is worth the payoff of starting with a 20 in a stat at level 1.

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

A game I am joining is taking this to an extreme, with everyone rolling stats and then assigning them among the entire party.

D&D 5E (2014) Character play vs Player play

This, right here. This is the main reason why characters with high CHA should be able to rely on the roll to succeed at the Charisma (Persuasion) test even if their roleplaying is a bit flat. Under the new 5e rules you could give advantage for good RP and confer disadvantage for bad RP. You...

D&D 5E (2014) Character play vs Player play

If they are viewers then they need to actually VIEW the content for it to be foreshadowing. As you described it, it sounds more like an impossible challenge followed by a mandatory hook requiring the players to ignore said challenge. If you want to foreshadow a Red Wizard plot involving...

    D&D 5E (2014) Clarification - Opportunity attacks

The benefit to the Pit Fiend is the line of Lemure minions that block the PCs from attacking it. Ablative devil armor.

    D&D 5E (2014) Initiative and Delay

Discussions of realism in a fantasy game where even the laws of gravity can be circumvented by magic make my brain hurt. Combat systems don't need realism, especially if that realism slows the game down. They need action and high adventure. I am not slowing the pacing of my game down just to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

In the poker analogy, only one player wins. In D&D as long as one player is winning everyone is winning. Some just win more than others. Player jealousy of the lucky roller is a huge problem, that needs to be dealt with if you plan to use random stat generation. But it works as a character...

D&D 5E (2014) Character play vs Player play

Thanks pemerton for the kind words. Cheating is not always bad, if it makes the game more interesting for all involved. If that trap is going to kill that barbarian, or if it was noticed by the rogue, then yea, don't move it. But if it's just an opportunity to roll a dex save to show how...

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

If you want the risk you can have it, but there are no backsies or complaints allowed. You roll it you keep it. After all, you wanted it. We rolled stats at my table and everyone wound up with close enough to the point buy, but one guy had a 20 starting dex and a 12 low in his "dump stat"...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Where that analogy breaks down is here: Wizards can not copy more cantrips into their spellbook, hence the silly/quirky rule interaction. Personally I have no problem with allowing wizards to have all the cantrips they could ever want, at 1/2 page per spell in their tomes, and having the number...

Dragonlance Setting up a Dragonlance Campaign.

Afflicted Kender is easy, just replace Lucky on Halfling with Afflicted, and some benefit associated with it, then play them as all depressing and emo instead of happy little kleptos. If you are playing post War of the Lance, I see no problem with allowing Dragonborn as a race. They would be...

Intellegence (Appraisal) Check! Also, if you are judging 2 Lutes, do you not have 2 tools with which to make your judgement?

D&D 5E (2014) Next DMG Sneak Preview is Up! Figurine of Wondrous Power!

    D&D 5E (2014) Lost Mines of P: election day!

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

There is also the "you must have the tool to make a tool related check" thing, as mentioned by Tormyr and SilverfireSage. You can not make a Charisma (Lute) Roll without actually having a Lute.

D&D 5E (2014) Character play vs Player play

This right here, this is bad. It's a fundamental way of DMing that I don't think you understand. When player's ideas are shot down, they get frustrated, when players get frustrated the game slows down and is generally less fun, when the game slows down and is less fun you inevitably wind up at...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Healing Kit is not a Tool. I am going to repeat this over and over in this thread (apparently) to emphasize this point. Also, Thieves Tools covers more than Open Lock. It's also Disable Device. Basically they wanted to cram all thief skills into one thing, especially with limited proficiency...

D&D 5E (2014) Character play vs Player play

To the puzzle answer, that's fine. No reason to change it. To the Description, unless it's really VITAL to the story the wizard has a certain appearance, it is actively hurting your game to say no to your players here. Like I said, he asked a question because he has an idea. If you say no...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mitigating Critical Hit Devastation

So you are in more danger of dying without aid if you get UberCrit. I like it. After about 5th level, -2x MaxHP is like... 100 hp. If you are taking 100hp in a single hit you are most assuridly dead (assuming you had 1 hp to start, so more like 150). Even a Wizard with +1 Con, about the...
