Psion class (Mearls, Happy Fun Hour)

I really want to play a character who can say: "You're seeing now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars. I've been living on the edge so long, where the winds of Limbo roar."

How often do you see Attacks of Opportunity in your 5e game?

I really like using minis and battle maps for the added fun of the cool visuals, providing a common understanding of the situation and employing specific tactics. We tend to have more opportunity attacks when we do. We tend to have general agreement on opportunity attacks when using theater of...

Need advice for a lethal prison style dungeon module

Dungeon Magazine Issue 94 Sept/October 2002 has a Mindflayer prison. It's 3.5 but conversion shouldn't be too time consuming, and you can probably complete it in two sessions. It's called the Spirals of Manzessine and has some advice for running it as a prison break. Note: It's default setting...

Would a campaign set in Greyhawk...

I love Greyhawk, so it wouldn't deter me.

Cleric of Gruumsh in a party with an Elf

I think you need to give them a common enemy, in which the Cleric of Gruumsh and the elven player can find a way to work together against a greater threat that both despise. I nominate the Drow. The ole "enemy of my enemy is my friend." Be sure to keep at least one Drow antagonist/major nemesis...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Case for Inspiration

I give out inspiration when the players stay in character, add flourish in theatric description with their actions, contribute to the narrative, give a bit of life to the scene whether through interacting with NPCs or the setting in some manner. The PC who describes how he shakes off the snow...

Is Dark Sun Coming To D&D?

Greyhawk needs psionics. Okay fine, it doesn't. I just want a Greyhawk setting book for 5e and making the setting available for use on DMs Guild.

Spelljammer Is Spelljammer Coming To D&D 5E?

You can't kill D&D, it has Resurrection on its spell list. :)

How often would you say it's appropriate to use the Guidance Cantrip?

I'd require my players to stand up and dance every time they cast Guidance. No, just kidding. If a character took Guidance as a cantrip, and remembered to use it regularly when an ally is using a skill, I'd consider it smart play, and wouldn't seek to restrict it in any way. I don't restrict...

How do you handle Rogue (Assassins)?

I'm not sure why there's a problem with assassinate. It confers two benefits. The first is a condition of acting before a foe. "advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn in the combat yet." You obtain this by virtue of acting before an opponent in the initiative...

Musings on the "Lawful Jerk" Paladin

The paladin is absolutely my favorite class, and have played a paladin through the editions of D&D. I think the problem of becoming a jerk paladin was rectified by one simple house rule back in first edition. Ignoring the "paladins will only adventure with persons of good alignment and neutrals...

    House ruling exhaustion

I totally misunderstood what the OP was about when I read the title. I thought you meant you were completely tired of making up house rules! :)

Paladin / Warlock Faith conflict query

My take? It depends on the oath, god and pact. I run Greyhawk. If an Oath of Devotion Paladin of Heironeous forms a pact with an angel in the service of Heironeous or even other divinities of law and good, I think there's synergy that the deity accepts. If the same paladin forms a pact with a...

D&D 5E (2014) Immutable Form: The golem is immune to any spell or effect that would alter its form.

Any spells cast by "Jenny Craig" and other weight loss wizards do not affect the golem.

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrewing a PC race: Gorgons

    I think it's playtest time. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrewing a PC race: Gorgons

Well, I still think the gaze attack should be an action and not a bonus action.

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrewing a PC race: Gorgons

Sorry, I seemed to have missed a post along the way. I think that works.

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrewing a PC race: Gorgons

But...snake tails might be good at grappling. Perhaps providing advantage on an action to grapple or something beneficial to a grapple. Whereas as, snakeheads would be useful for a poisonous bite attack. It helps avoid gorgons wielding mauls with their hair. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrewing a PC race: Gorgons

I wondering if Writhing Mane, is better as an attack option rather than being able to hold items or obtain an upgrade that allows it to use weapons? Visually, imagining a gorgon swinging say, an axe with her hair looks a bit comical. However, lashing snakes that can bite when a foe is within...
