D&D 5E (2014) How difficult should Difficulty be?

OK. So more than 96% chance of failure even when using party synergy. How "nearly" do you think "nearly impossible" should be?

D&D 5E (2014) How difficult should Difficulty be?

Yes. If you have a party with a number of intelligent characters with the right proficiency, the group as a whole will have a much better chance of succeeding than just one. But I take check difficulties as being how the average person-on-the-street would think of them, rather than my player's...

D&D 5E (2014) How difficult should Difficulty be?

A mythical-level hero who is at maximum ability potential and skilled in the task at hand is not "anyone". They can achieve feats that the average person with their +0 bonus would regard as nearly impossible on a regular basis.

    D&D 5E (2014) "The so-called '5-Minute Workday' is Something I've Seen Regularly Playing 5E D&D" (a poll)

Yes. They will often have some level of pressure or deadline, but may allow choices to mitigate it. (If you choose to travel stealthily over the safe route, you won't have time for any rests. If you choose to go fast you may risk more trouble with encounters/hazards, or levels of exhaustion but...

Spelljammer Meet The Giff--Spelljammer's Space Pirate Hippos!

Interestingly, the Eberron book talks about how adventurer-level spells like fireball aren't ideal for military use. Battlefield items and spells generally go for large areas and much lower damage, because you're using them against 10 hp soldiers and 4hp conscripts.

Spelljammer Meet The Giff--Spelljammer's Space Pirate Hippos!

If guns are just another weapon, why would you need a "gun artificer"? Why would they be distinct from a "dagger artificer" or a "spear artificer"? He does note that that is how he would do it only if you absolutely have to introduce guns into Eberron. But yes, artificers have a place in any...

D&D 5E (2014) The actual adventuring day is 3-4 encounters per day, Wizards just last minute decided to make Easy Encounters from the playtest, the average.

Part of the reason that the party can "blow though them" is probably because you are having so few encounters a day: It allows them to go all out nova. Making the encounters deadly won't make things harder for the party as much as adding more encounters, or at least making them multi-stage to...

D&D General trying to make an alien-themed race but they keep turning into elves, help.

Gnomes are often thought to have a mystical outlook, but they have a less aloof, more curious and enthusiastic nature. Are they suitable non-elf-like for your purposes?

D&D 5E (2014) Re-gripping your weapon uses an object interaction?

Ah. Are you starting confusion over number of hands needed Tetrasodium? If you're under the impression that, for example, swapping to and from crossbows and greatswords to make attacks in a single round is equivalent to casting a spell with a somatic component, that could explain a lot. A...

D&D 5E (2014) I have never once worried about "encounters per day" when prepping D&D 5E (a poll)

I don't generally worry too much about CR calculations, but I have had to look at the number of encounters the party may run into and gauge who will be running on empty at this point, and who will be able to contribute more.

D&D 5E (2014) Re-gripping your weapon uses an object interaction?

I'm missing something. Why would you need to sheathe or drop your weapon to cast a spell? You can make somatic components with one hand: you don't need both.

    D&D 5E (2014) Turning full-casters into half-casters

It is an interesting idea, but dropping from full casting to half casting is generally a big step down in power. How does your bladesinger compare with the standard bladesinger or a fighter of equivalent level for example?

D&D 5E (2024) The Half Orc. Are they still needed?

Are you talking about whether players can play a character who is a half-orc, or whether there should be separate rules for half-orcs as a specific race? Those are two different questions. Between Tasha's customising your origin option, or just deciding which parent you take after and using...

D&D 5E (2014) Artificers, Paladins, and Rangers, oh, MY! (Concerning Cantrips)

Artificers sacrifice quite a bit of power compared to Rangers, and very much so compared to Paladins. Why do you believe that their access to cantrips was not takin into account for the class power budget? I mean if you take into account the way Lay on Hands covers healing that would otherwise...

D&D General why do we not have an armourless half caster?

It really isn't odd. A half-caster would be one of the worst solutions to implement this concept. WotC probably spotted this as well. A warrior-type that enhances attacks with magic would probably want to to that regularly, at least almost every round. A helf-caster does not have the slots to...

D&D General Creating a Pride Flag for my D&D setting

Maybe due to darkvision, dwarves don't really pay much attention to colour. What they're really interested in is texture. Anyone can mix up some paint and slap it around, but it takes dedication and patience to use just the right weave, or file at just the right angle to make a garment or stone...

D&D General Magic item creation. How it works or what it does?

Bonuses from the same source don't stack. So two Bless spells, even from different casters will not stack. However a Bless spell and a Boldness Elixir (which does the same thing) will stack. Likewise two Rings of Protection will not stack, but a Ring of protection and a Cloak of Protection will...

D&D 5E (2014) Charm Person ends if caster does something harmful to target. Is hurting the target's ally harmful?

I would regard the spell as effectively doing multiple things. Its not that you can't attack/target the caster because you regard them as a friendly acquaintance. Its that the spell makes you regard them as a friendly acquaintance and does not let you attack/target them as a separate effect.

D&D 5E (2014) Optional Variant Features for Fighters

I suppose the obvious choice for Advanced TWF is to allow more than one attack in the TWF bonus action, based on the number of Extra Attack levels you have. Or remove the bonus action and make the additional attacks part of your actual Attack Action.
