Diamond Comic Distributors Files Bankruptcy, Sells Alliance Game Distributors

The combination of tariffs, people pulling back on discretionary spending due to the slowing US economy/layoffs and now this will probably bankrupt some companies.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I’m glad Darrington added support for Foundry and a group has already been working on a Foundry module. I hope to get a chance to run it via Foundry sometime this year.

D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

Sometimes higher ups are given the option to step down instead of being fired/laid off to save face. I don’t know if that’s what happened here or not but it does happen.

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

Yeah with a product like Sigil you need to launch with a free premade adventure (probably one of the beginner boxes adventures) and have at least one or two full adventures for sale.

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

Not surprising. You don’t cut 90% of the development staff of your unfinished product only for it to still be in active development. That’s maintenance/sunset mode cuts. I feel bad for everyone who got laid off and hope they find something soon, but things are tough out there.

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

Yeah this is pretty big. If 5.5 was doing really well Hasbro would be shouting about it in their financial reports. I do think it's likely 5.5 underperformed compared to what they were expecting or spent on it (especially considering the salaries of software developers isn't cheap). I'm...

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

I feel like including the adventures from one of the beginner boxes for free would have been the best way to go.

Has Wizards of the Coast Given Up on Sigil?

I imagine they were all in because they thought they could make a lot of micro-transaction money off of players with it and additional money from DMs selling premade modules.

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

If 30 people was 90% of the team that means they have 3 people left working on it. There's no way Project Sigil is going to continue with that small of a development team, that's maintenance mode/wrapping up development levels of small for a major project like this.

Project Sigil 90% Of D&D’s Project Sigil Team Laid Off

Yeah this seems like something that was conceived of back during the height of D&D's popularity with Covid keeping people inside, along with Critical Role and Stranger Things both being very popular, as a way to make more money from D&D players via videogame style micro-transactions, along with...

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

I get the feeling that making a quality module for Sigil is going to cost a lot more than a Foundry or roll20 module. It will likely require lots of new 3D assets for characters and environments vs a 2d battle map and tokens.

Pathfinder 2E Why are all the magic items so boring?

Yeah having played PF2e for a few years now the magic item system needs an improvement. Automatic bonus progression should be baked into the default rules, since you have to buy the runes to actually stay competitive with the monsters at your level, especially for melee focused characters...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

While the percentage of players it caused to leave DND was probably somewhat small compared to the overall userbase I imagine a lot of them who were aware and were moving away were some of the more hardcore players who not only used third party products but they were likely the type who would...

Dungeons & Dragons Comments On Possibility of Future Movie Projects

The movie will probably eventually crawl its way to profitability from things like VOD, streaming rights, TV rights, blu ray sales, etc but I’m sure it’s a long slow climb and hasn’t made its way there yet. Most movies are co-financed by wealthy investors or companies that get a piece of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Baldur's Gate 3 needs more short companions!

I was hoping we would get a full enhanced edition of BG3 similar to Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 that would restore some cut content like the halfling werewolf, the cut parts of Baldur’s Gate and maybe add another level or two due to how easy it is to hit the level cap but sadly seems like...

D&D Movie/TV Hasbro Getting Out Of The Movie Business

Here's a deadline article mentioning that eOne co-financed 50% of the movie: https://deadline.com/2023/03/dungeons-and-dragons-box-office-projection-1235312815/ Yeah it might not be an exact 50/50 split but seems like it was close enough for a major Hollywood trade to report that number...

Pathfinder: The Dragon's Demand Reveals New Trailer, Kickstarter Launching Soon

Obviously it can vary by game but I have a Steam Deck which I take with me when I travel and will often times play games in offline mode on the Deck in the plane.
