    D&D 5E (2014) "Combat exhaustion" at 0 hp?

Unless they think that they are infallible, they should know that the analysis could be wrong. I've tried many things I didn't like or did not think would work. Experimentation yields some fantastic results.

D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

There are editions of D&D where this is totally fine. Orcs, gnolls, trolls, red dragons in many OSR games are evil to the bone. You can kill them with impunity. Sounds like the new trend is to create a different narrative world (and thus a different kind of adventure) in the newest edition...

D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

Even a real world organization such as the one you mentioned has involuntary members and members who are not actively pursuing violence. To say it's okay to murder them all just makes you another extremist group. Which is another type of bigotry - as I said. "All of them are evil because of...

D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

You don't know that everyone in a certain religion is trying to murder you all. And if you can know such a thing - and that thing is true - then you can also know that all Gnolls/Orcs/DeathBots want to murder us all. Anti-race and anti-religion are both bigotry. If you accept one and not the...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Combat exhaustion" at 0 hp?

Exhaustion at 0 hp has transformed our game and made it much better. In baseline 5e, being reduced to 0 hp is effectively taking a short nap. Which brings very little sense of danger or urgency. It should be significant if something strikes you so hard that you drop to the ground bleeding...

D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

Is it though? You've just changed the narrative to, "That religion is evil. Kill everyone who claims to be a member!"

    D&D 5E (2014) What removes exhaustion?

In 5e not a lot of combats last more than 3-4 rounds. Any expensive ability that lasts 10 rounds is often wasted. Frenzy is kinda a crap ability.

D&D General How often (on average) do you have D&D sessions with absolutely no combat?

For me it depends on the edition of D&D being run and the expectations of the table. For Old-School games (we use Old School Essentials) we can go several sessions without a combat. Lots of plotting, sneaking, stealing, mapping, etc. For more modern editions like 4e and 5e, combat seems to be...

D&D 5E (2014) Fluff & Rule, Lore & Crunch. The Interplay of Class, System, and Color in D&D

Again, this is edition dependent. Originally the ranger class was exactly the rangers from Lord of the Rings, including proficiency with the Palantir.

D&D 5E (2014) Fluff & Rule, Lore & Crunch. The Interplay of Class, System, and Color in D&D

This is very edition dependent. In earlier editions, classes were both background and abilities in a single package.

    D&D 5E (2014) Phandelver Nothic

I liked having the Nothic there. It served as a reminder that the world below their feet was strange and unsettling. Anything underground is always in danger of intersecting with the Mythic Underworld. Enter any dungeon at your peril.

This is a great checklist for when I make my next city!

    AD&D 1E U1 Secret of Saltmarsh: Thoughts?

A great place to put things like this is in the room with the alchemist. I love describing that room, it's so evocative. What exactly went on there? Why is the alchemist here? What's all this stuff?

OSR A Pathfinder Group Tries Old-School Essentials

That middle ground is "editions". :) In B/X, any scores are fine. In AD&D (1E/2E), scores matter more so two 15+ may feel necessary.

OSR A Pathfinder Group Tries Old-School Essentials

I guess it all depends on what it means for a character to "stink". In OSE, I've run multiple characters with scores as low as 4, and more than a few with no score higher than a 9. It didn't get in the way of playing the character at all. Wizards don't need high INT to cast spells. Fighters...

OSR A Pathfinder Group Tries Old-School Essentials

Well, I'm almost a year in and dozens of sessions, so I feel we have gotten into it. All of those issues you list are features for us. The wilderness is not meant for civilized people and it hates you. Dungeons are the mythic underworld and it hates you. The parties (I'm running about 20...

OSR A Pathfinder Group Tries Old-School Essentials

My D&D 5e group has converted to OSE and are loving it. I think the change in venue was enough to shake them out of the rut of looking for combat encounters with everything. The "XP for Gold" reward system combined with the incredible fragility of low level characters demanded that they start...

    AD&D 1E U1 Secret of Saltmarsh: Thoughts?

Best starter module ever written for D&D in any edition. I ran it for a party of 12 back in the 80s (1st edition) and we had an absolute hoot. I've run it several times since then, including in 5e. Reward the players for ingenuity when investigating. If things slow down too much, have creepy...
