    What makes good flavor?

Reading it and thinking "hey, that's cool" is maybe 1/3 of good flavor. What specifically makes it? Well that's up to who ever is reading it. Something unique, provided with just a few tantalizing details that are easy to jump from(and just as easy to work around if you choose) definately seems...

    Thoughts on Kalamar

Actually I had no idea there were that many. That's nuts. But even so, I think its definately a challenge to be aware of. Especially since there's not nearly as much source material as FR for the players to draw their knowledge from. Even tho I've never played FR, I know about a dozen or so of...

    Improved Bull Rush, Improved Overrun

Yeah, the bull rush results need to be clarified a bit. Like when you push someone into a wall, or into an occupied space. Right now, the only precedents I'm aware of are the results of a failed bull rush where your own square is occupied(fall prone), and the tactical manuver "domino...

How important is Music in your games?

I don't mind music, so long as it isnt distracting. Pretty much any music with lyrics is out, and very recognizeable themes, such as the LotR soundtrack, are out too. Softer insturmentals work well. Final Fantasy music, despite some of its recongizeable stuff, works too cause there's just such a...

    Thoughts on Kalamar

The setting istelf is great. The rest of the stuff associated with it didn't thrill me much. One thing to beware of tho. There are something like 52 common dieties included with the setting. Thats ALOT for the DM to keep track of and even more so for the players, especially if they don't have...

    Improved Bull Rush, Improved Overrun

Yep, I've taken Imp Bullrush once or twice, but mainly as a prereq for certain feats. Occasionally tho, it does come in handy when I find a good chance to use the tactic. But in those situations, I'd probably bullrush even without the feat.

D&D 3.x Using D&D 3.5 rules only, how would you simulate a Jedi?

Yeah, Psi-warrior is a good base. A few of the powers, such as offensive/defensive precognition, empty mind, and burst fit nicely with their basic combat style. Especially those powers that grant insight bonuses. Inirtial Armor and Force Screen can provide defensive bonuses as well without...

How far have you gone in a base class?

I voted 6-10. I've had a couple characters who would've gone all the way in the base class, but either they or the campaign didn't survive.

    The Standing Stone: experiences?

Our group ran through it last fall. Here's a few observations from a player perspective. Party was 5 characters: Psi-Warrior, Ranger Archer, Spirit Shaman, Fighter/Rogue, and another psi character..might've been a Wilder, I forget. - The random encounters that include the treants, those were...

    Feats to improve Aid Another?

Like NexH said, Complete Adventurer has some expanded Aid Another rules. For a quick summary, for every 10 points which you beat the base 10 DC, you get a +1 on the Aid action. However you need 5 ranks in the skill, or +5 BAB to take advantage of this extra help.

How often are prestige classes allowed & used?

Our group uses them frequently, and can usually work with the DM to get a particular PRC into the game, even from 3rd party sources. Often, they serve as an excellent basis for a new character idea. "Oh man! I wanna play a Tempest!" is often the start of many new characters for our group...

    Your favorite LA +1

I too am a big fan of the Goliaths. I like their bonuses and I like their style.

    The Spirit vs the Letter

Voted Balanced, but spirit of the rule trumps any poorly worded or undefined loopholes.

    Two Weapon Fighting question

Any time you make more than a single attack in a round, you are required to use the full attack action. Certain factors can alter this, such as the Complete Adventurer feat "Dual Strike" which allows both attacks to be made as a standard action with a single attack roll.

How easy do you find it to run NPC party members?

I dont enjoy it at all. Its enough to keep track of the adventure and various enemies without worrying about another character to run. As was stated in another post, it often turns into a DM mouthpiece where the PCs just expect to be able to follow the NPC or it is completely forgotton. I...

    A Wizard's question on Grapple

Excellent suggestions from Elder-Basilisk, particularly the tip about your meatshields using tripping tactics to prevent movement through your lines. A few other suggestions: See about aquiring an item (robes/bracers) that give you the "slick" ability. Slick, improved slick, and greater slick...

    Kalamar - deities

Kalamar is an excellent setting, but with something like 52 major dieties and churches, it can be a bit much for the players to keep track of, much less the DM. I remember reading a 12-15 page Gazeteer for the setting (might've been a PDF) that did a good job of summing up the setting. I...

    Wizard Staff Mechanics

I agree with Psion that Quintessential Wizard has some good ideas for a true wizards staff. I believe they call them an "arcane nexus," which can actually be a couple different items such as a wand or rod, but the staff has the most ability slots. Though, like technophile said, the system isnt...

    Characters and their sheets

When I build a character, he is just numbers on paper. At least at first. The more I play, the more real he becomes. No matter how much I like the character and how good I have his story and personality thought out, it just doesnt quite come together till it's gone through a session or two and...
