D&D 3.x What spells got the greatest buff from 3e to 5e?

Sure. My point with Banishment, for instance, is that there are multiple save or suck (concentration) spells, but they usually give renewed saves each round. Banishment has you covered all the way, if the opponent fails the first (and only) time. It's pretty nifty.

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

As someone not that well-acquainted with 4E, I gather this isn't exaggerating? Jesus.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

For me, it's not that it's gotten edition-warry, but that certain contributors' posts are almost indecipherable to me. I have no idea what is meant by half the stuff that's written here. :)

D&D 3.x What spells got the greatest buff from 3e to 5e?

Slow seems insanely powerful for a 3rd level spell. Targets 6 creatures, halves their movement, -2 to AC, robs them of their reactions and bonus actions AND reduces the number of attacks to 1, regardless of how many they can make (hello monk or high-level fighter). Since many debilitating...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock as the arcane caster of the group?

With a rather limited spell selection for warlock (and sorcerer), I think it's very important that DM and players are on the same page regarding the setting and intended campaign plans. Most groups do this anyway, sure, but it's not always the case.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

What is "setting change" anyway? Aren't settings supposed to be canonically "unchanging", i.e. the only big changes being what any given group is willing to do with it in a home campaign? If viewed through these lens, I fail to see how any official setting embraces change. Imposing new canon is...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the 5e Monster Manual the best MM ever?

The gnome lass is perhaps my favourite racial art!

D&D 5E (2014) Heavy Armour Master, how does a front liner survive without it?

This feat almost feels like it was designed with basic human in mind (earliest acquisition at 4th).

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

Concerning Trek, but pertinent to this discussion as well, it should be noted that taking fan outrage and their delicate sensibilities too seriously isn't always a way to go. Deep Space Nine, for instance, was thought of among many fans as a betrayal of Gene Roddenberry's universe yet is...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I the Only One Not 100% Impressed with the Monster Manual?

I can attest to that. When I got my PHB from Amazon, the pages were somewhat wavy. Now they're completely normal. Give it a few days.

    D&D 5E (2014) Prestige classes in Next?

Subclasses are a stroke of genius. WotC can release a considerable amount of new subclasses in future products without running the risk of (significantly) breaking the game and running roughshod over balance. The modular approach to them, being integrated into an existing class structure, is a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does RAW have a place in 5e?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Still, and maybe that's just my (flawed) reading, but I'd think the reasonable thing to do is to apply Int mod once per spell cast and to whichever of the missile(s) you want. Unless you think it's OK to throw around 3d4+18 damage with a 1st level spell that allows no...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does RAW have a place in 5e?

I don't get the supposed ambiguity. In my view it is obvious the rule says that you apply your Int modifier to the roll. If INT is 16, you add +3 to whatever total you rolled. Yeah, it could be a bit problematic assigning this bonus damage to multiple targets, but there's no reason you couldn't...

    D&D 5E (2014) How good are Barbarians?

Ah, yes. One more reason to really dislike hex/hunter's mark as spells (rather than core class features). Any high APR class, like monks or fighters, would be stupid not to take it. My personal pet peeve.

D&D 5E (2014) what is the best class?

It's a good domain, I agree. Is it authoritatively better than others? Okay, he can make one attack per battle (assuming regular short rests after every encounter) with +5att/+10dmg and he has 1 bonus attack to boot. But, as you said, light cleric also has some really great toys while life...

D&D 5E (2014) what is the best class?

War Cleric doesn't really geat extra attacks regularly; the number of those is tied to his Wis modifier per long rest. If you're running 4-6 encounters a day, that's 1 extra attack per battle on average (assuming Wis20). Even less for a more intensive day. I don't think that makes War Cleric any...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Hunter's mark (Ranger spell) drop Concentration requirement?

Thanks. Don't sweat it. Well... hmmmh... who the hell made wolves CR1/4?:p;)

D&D 5E (2014) Do magic missiles automatically hit

With all due respect, your DM seems a bit... hardcore, let's say.

D&D 5E (2014) Raise your hand if your mom...

I started in the early-mid 90s, well after the whole "devil thing", and besides I get the impression that was largely a US phenomenon. Though, I remember my mom always reacting with a raised eyebrow and incomprehension when I told her I was going to a session with friends. Session? What...
